: Because of the consistently expanding energy request, the introduction of a decentralized micro-grid based on energy resources will soon be the most exciting development in the power system. Micro-grids, which are mainly based on inverters, are becoming more popular as they can handle different forms of renewable energy effectively. However, one of the most challenging areas of research is their control. In the last few years, many control strategies have been developed. In this review, different control methods have been discussed that apply to the micro-grid system. Furthermore, the comparative analysis of classical and modern control strategies is also considered. This survey guides the new researchers about all available control strategies and room for improvement towards the optimal solution of the micro-grid control techniques. It also identifies several research gaps and future trends therein as well as provides a solution to manage problems in MGs. The strategies are then compared based on their applicability to different control requirements.

Optimal inclusion of a photovoltaic system and wind energy resources in electrical grids is a strenuous task due to the continuous variation of their output powers and stochastic nature. Thus, it is mandatory to consider the variations of the Renewable energy resources (RERs) for efficient energy management in the electric system. The aim of the paper is to solve the energy management of a micro-grid (MG) connected to the main power system considering the variations of load demand, photovoltaic (PV), and wind turbine (WT) under deterministic and probabilistic conditions. The energy management problem is solved using an efficient algorithm, namely equilibrium optimizer (EO), for a multi-objective function which includes cost minimization, voltage profile improvement, and voltage stability improvement. The simulation results reveal that the optimal installation of a grid-connected PV unit and WT can considerably reduce the total cost and enhance system performance. In addition to that, EO is superior to both whale optimization algorithm (WOA) and sine cosine algorithm (SCA) in terms of the reported objective function.

Abstract Increasing the fossil fuels consumption, pollution and rising prices of these fuels have led to the expansion of renewable resources and their replacement with conventional sources. In this paper, a robust algorithm for a micro-grid (MG) planning with the goal of maximizing profits is presented in day-ahead market. The energy resources in MG are wind farms (WFs), photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), combined heat and power(CHP) units, tidal steam turbine (TST) and energy storage devices (ESDs). This algorithm is divided into two main parts: (1) Optimal planning of each energy resource; (2) Using the Nash equilibrium –genetic algorithm (NE-GA) hybrid method to determine the optimal MG strategy. In energy resources optimal planning, using a stochastic formulation, the generation bids of each energy resource is determined in such a way that the profit of each one is maximized. Also, the constraints of renewable and load demands and selection the best method of demand response (DR) program are investigated. Then the Nash equilibrium point is determined using the primary population produced in the previous step using the NE-GA hybrid method to determine the optimal MG strategy. Thus, using the ability of the genetic algorithm method, the Nash equilibrium point of the generation units is obtained at an acceptable time, and This means that none of the units are willing to change their strategy and that the optimal strategy is extracted. Comparison of results with previous studies shows that the expected profit in the proposed method is more than other method.
