The contribution provides information about the development of a system for visualization of NPP severe accident progress. This visualization is under development in cooperation of UJV Rez, a.s. and Czech Technical University in Prague. The project is supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and is planned to be solved from 2015 to 2017. The visualization uses results of an analytical code MELCOR for evaluation of the NPP severe accident progress. The visualization firstly reads MELCOR results, transforms them to a suitable format for quick processing and provides graphical screens with reactor components that could demonstrate the progress of the evaluated severe accident. The visualization can even provide parallel presentation of more different scenarios of the severe accident. The system is planned to be used for training of NPP staff to handle severe accidents. In the first year of the project solution (2015), the software for MELCOR data transformation, next for providing information about transformed data were developed. In the following year (2016), software for creation of graphical screens with reactor components and software for severe accident progress presentation is creating. In the final year of the project (2017), thorough testing is going to be carried out, and the applicability of the visualization for a practical use during a NPP staff training is going to be verified.

The geographic public receives another monothematic issue dedicated this time to the Czech borderland. Specific problems, conditioned by differentiated physical-geographical and mainly social-economic conditions of the given territory, have been studied since the 1930's. The 1990's have undoubtedly brought a new impulse to its development connected both with internal processes (democratization of the society, economic transformation, etc.) and external aspects (for instance its exposed position, transitory function, European integration). The running changes have become a challenge for researchers from different geographical work places studying, up to now in a more or less isolated way, only segments of the borderland (for instance those of Ústí nad Labem are interested in the Bohemian-Saxon border). Two similarly aimed projects monitoring the part of the Czech borderland, the importance of cooperation with neighbouring countries and integration of the Czech Republic into European structures have been solved with the backing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (1998-1999) and the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (1999-2000). The authors of the published papers mainly come from the work places involved in these two projects, but also other colleagues, including those from abroad, have been invited to take part. The intention of this volume is to stress the concrete problems or situations in the model borderland regions and to rise up a discussion on the problems of the borderland at present and in the future.

Research into lakes both in Czechia and abroad was carried on by number of geographers in Prague. This tradition was established by the founder of the Geographic Institute of Charles University, Professor Václav Švambera. In the 1970's, the tradition was then taken over by the author of this article. A lot of his disciples have taken part in the research into lakes since. Thanks to the backing of the Grant Agency of Charles University, the project "Lakes in the Czech Republic" has been completed - its aim was to compile an extensive study on the Czech lakes including their genetic classification. The previous work has been followed by the latest extensive project backed by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic "Atlas of Lakes in the Czech Republic".
