For many years, sexual abuse of young athletes quietly festered throughout amateur sport organizations in Canada and the United States. However, the veil has recently been lifted by the highly publicized testimonies of athletes sexually abused as minors by disgraced former USA Gymnastics (“USAG”) physician and Michigan State University professor Larry Nassar. The troubling details of these stories spurred investigations seeking to identify the causes behind the institutional failures to intervene in Nassar’s perpetration of abuse. The evidence gathered by these investigations alongside independent academic research reveal that unfettered predatory behaviour is a pervasive issue across the institutions responsible for overseeing the American Olympic movement and amateur sports. In addition, similar patterns of unchecked abuse have since been identified as plaguing Canadian Olympic and amateur sport organizations. This paper examines the institutional failures to address child sexual abuse occurring under the oversight of Olympic and amateur sport organizations in Canada and the United States. In both countries, efforts are currently underway to reform governance of these institutions to better protect minors participating in amateur sports. Accordingly, this paper also analyzes the policies implemented thus far and makes substantive recommendations on ideal federal level initiatives.

Abstract: Starting from the attempt to decipher the title attributed to Patrícia Reis’s novel – O que nos separa dos outros por um copo de whisky (2014) –, we will try to understand the reasons why a university professor is in Macau, drinking wildly – implicit fact to an uninterrupted narrative in the form of a monologue. In order to fill the emptiness of existence, in the hope of being saved, such a character seeks to recover ghostly images of his past through memorialistic traces that overlap in textual meshes. As a theoretical apparatus in the quest to decipher the enigma about what separates the narrator-character from others, other voices will join ours. When mentioning issues surrounding the death of memory, the antics of irony and humor, we will call on the critical reflections of Lélia Parreira Duarte, in her book Ironia e humor na literatura (2006), and the question of “jumping into the void” will be brought up through the hands of Vladimir Safatle, through O circuito dos afetos: corpos políticos, desamparo e o fim do indivíduo (2018).Keywords: O que nos separa dos outros por um copo de whisky; Patrícia Reis; memory; irony; death.

The regional aspirations of resort architecture give specific perspectives on the history of regionalism. The development of the shores of Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe, was determined by this particular regional aspiration. Iván Kotsis was a defining figure of Hungarian architecture between the world wars, and had a significant impact on the period - not only with his work as an architect, but also as a university professor and a public activist. This paper examines his activity around Lake Balaton on different scales, since it represented a peculiar perspective within the history of regional ideas. The research concludes that Kotsis’ regional perspective focused on resort architecture was an independent conception separated from both modern and local interpretations. Based on his university work and the knowledge transfer resulting from his international relations, he developed an integrated perspective on the region from an academic position. Reflecting on the problems of holiday resorts, he formed an autonomous method with which he experimented, to mediate between the universal modern approach and the local features of the landscape.

Pamiętnik Wacławy by E. Orzeszkowa is a novel presenting the fate of a young woman in a twofold reality: at first, it is assigned to the drawing room and social life; then, in the second stage, to a study. An important role in the linguistic creation of Wacława’s fate is played by the parents: mother – the parlor lady, father – researcher, university professor. The construction of these characters reflects the two different worlds that a young woman explores in order to ultimately choose the latter. The language (style, lexis, syntax) corresponds with the creation of Wacława as a spoiled miss (in the first volume) and a mature young lady (in the second volume).

The article considers the life cycle of a university scientific and pedagogical specialist's brand as a continuous period from the moment of gaining a high level of recognition by the target audience to the moment of loss of specified influence on the target audience. A direct correlation between the phases of a university scientific and pedagogical specialist's brand life cycle and starting points of the theory of innovation diffusion is proved there. The division of the life cycle of a brand into six phases is proposed. They are as follows: phase of development of branding technology, phase of the introduction of a university scientific and pedagogical specialistʼs brand into the educational and scientific activity of a university, phase of growth of personal and professional potential of a brand, phase of stabilization of interaction of image and reputation brand components; the phase of extinction of the university specialist’s brand and the phase of the brandʼs exit from the market of providing educational and scientific services. The inexpediency of purposefully avoiding the development phase of branding technology is argued, as such “dynamically oriented” branding does not take into account the peculiarities of the personal and professional potential of the specialist, as well as lacks systemic and strategic focus. It is specified that depending on the purpose of application, rebranding of the university professor’s brand can act as a connecting phase of a life cycle of a specialists’ brand and as a singular process of formation of a new university professor’s brand. It is emphasized that preventive or forced-consolidating rebranding by a university professor due to fixing a temporary decline in his brand demand by the target audience in a phase of growth of personal and professional potential is ineffective. Keywords: brand; university professor; life cycle; phase; differentiation; target audience; university; rebranding.

This study aimed at exploring the possible underlying reasons for low speaking proficiency of EFL learners through adopting a qualitative methodology. To approach its goal, this study used a semi-structured interview to collect in-depth details from three EFL learners and one university professor. The internal construction of the interview was associated with the following four items; student, teacher, English materials or textbooks, and the assessment practices used inside classrooms. The findings of this study shed some light on multiple components related to teaching methods, teachers centered approach, students’ motivation, unauthentic English materials. This study recommended further investigation using quasi-experiments to explore more what causes this low speaking performance as well as to propose some valid suggestions and recommendations to develop EFL speaking.

The aim of this paper is to share the results of the process of formulating the curriculum for the 2016 University Teacher Training in Biology at the Faculty of Exact, Chemical and Natural Sciences of the National University of Misiones (UNaM) based on a collective construction among various stakeholders in the educational community and especially the proposal of the formative pathway of Education for Health and the Environment (EpSyA). The research used a qualitative and interpretative methodology based on the analysis of curricular documents, institutional agreements, national regulations, interviews and classroom observations. The different instances of discussion in the reformulation of the curricular project are reconstructed chronologically, the macro-decisions in the construction of the formative path of EpSyA are analysed and the hourly loads and minimum contents of the subjects and the teaching strategies are made explicit.
