In this paper, a new kind of chitosan schiff base and its zinc complexes were prepared. Chitosan schiff base (CS-DBSB) was obtained when 3, 5-Di-tert-butyl salicylaldehyde was introduced to the C-2 nitrogen position of chitosan. Its zinc complex of CS-DBSB (CS-DBSB-Zn) was also prepared. The structure and performance of physicochemical characteristics of CS-DBSB and CS-DBSB-Zn were examined by FT-IR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric (TG). The thermal behaviors of CS-DBSB and CS-DBSB-Zn were described. TG curves presented three events including water loss, decomposition of the polysaccharide generating a carbonaceous residue that burns at higher temperatures.

Abstract A novel compound was synthesized by the reaction of the amino group of the chitosan with the formyl group of pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline-3-carboxaldehyde moiety, which produced chitosan modified with a Schiff base (chitosan Schiff base). The structure of the newly prepared composite was elucidated. Chitosan Schiff base was used to remove the textile anionic remazol red (RR) dye from wastewater. The kinetic data and adsorption isotherm were best fitted by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Freundlich isotherm, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated. Chitosan Schiff base resulted in 100% removal of carcinogenic dye at 2 min only with qm 344.8 mg/g, and may do the same for other anionic reactive dyes, thus avoiding secondary pollution.

This study including prepared new colored esters containing heterocyclic with high molecular weights. In the first part of work we synthesized azo dyes [1,2] from the reaction p-toluidine with β-naphthol and o-nitro phenol, thin we synthesized Schiff bases [3,4] by the reaction anthranilic acid with benzaldehyde and dimethyl benzaldehyde. The reaction azo dyes (contain OH group) with Schiff base (contain COOH group) these led to produce the new colored esters [A1-A4]. The second part of work was modification the (C=N-) group in esters to heterocyclic compounds by reacting with phenyl iso cyanide to produce new β-lactam [B1-B4] and with anthranilic acid to get new hydroquinazoline [C1-C4]. All these compounds were characterized by physical properties and spectral methods FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR.
