AbstractWe present an investigation of the diffusion and melt doping of Cu in CdGeAs2. Cu was found to be an acceptor, its introduction in the melt allowed the controlled introduction of holes from ∼8·1016 cm-3 to ∼1·1018 cm -3. Introduction of Cu from the melt was also found to improve the homogeneity of the crystal. The saturation solubility of Cu introduced via diffusion doping was found to have an exponential dependence on the diffusion temperature, from 723 K to 873 K, obeying the equation N = N0 exp (- δH / kT) with the parameters N0 = 6.10+19 cm-3, δH = 0.3 eV, and k equal to Boltzman's constant. From 873 K to 923 K, the saturation solubility was found to decrease exponentially with temperature.

Purpose of the study. Healthcare budget impact analysis in the Russian Federation of providing adult patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with basic therapy for outpatient treatment. Material and methods. The hypothesis of reducing costs for the treatment of exacerbations of COPD was tested while providing all patients with basic therapy on an outpatient basis. The model calculates the direct medical costs of drug provision and treatment of exacerbations in patients with COPD in the current situation and when all patients with COPD are covered with basic therapy as part of a program of preferential drug provision. The simulation period is 1 year. The analysis does not take into account social losses associated with disability, payment of disability certificates, reduced labor productivity and mortality. Results. The cost of providing all patients with COPD with the recommended basic drug therapy on an outpatient basis is substantially offset by a decrease in the cost of treating exacerbations: drug costs should increase by 14.1 billion rubles compared with the current situation, while the cost of providing medical care to patients with exacerbations is reduced by 9.7 billion rubles. As a result, the difference in direct medical costs, or the necessary additional investments, is 4.4 billion rubles. The price of drugs used for basic therapy has the greatest impact on the size of the required additional investments. Conclusion. Providing all patients with COPD with the recommended basic drug therapy on an outpatient basis, we can expect a decrease in the number of moderate exacerbations per year by 14.7% and severe exacerbations by 31.2%. Taking into account not only medical, but also socio-economic costs can not only offset additional investments, but also demonstrate significant savings. When implementing a pilot project of preferential drug provision for patients with COPD in a specific region of the Russian Federation, it is possible to reduce the cost of purchasing medicines when forming a municipal order.

The combination of ion-pair extraction and differential pulse polarography is shown to be a method suitable for the determination of 10-7 mol l-1 concentrations of organic bases of quaternary ammonium compounds. Orange II (4-[2-hydroxy-1-naphtyl]azobenzenesulfonic acid) was found to be an appropriate polarographically active counter-ion. The proposed method was used for the determination of tetrapentylammonium bromide (as model compound), Septonex ([1-(ethoxycarbonyl)-pentadecyl]trimethylammonium bromide) and codeine.

The effect of the solvent and the counter-ion on the ring alkylation of 3- and 4-methoxyphenols by isopentenyl bromide has been examined. Under strictly anhydrous conditions good and consistent yields of the o- isopentenylphenols were obtained with the combination potassium- toluene, but sodium-toluene was more convenient. Boron trifluoride etherate was more satisfactory than stannic chloride, zinc chloride, or phosphoric acid in catalysing the condensation of 3- and 4-methoxy-phenols with 2-methylbut-3-en-2-ol to the corresponding o-isopentenylphenols. Aryl α,α-dimethylpropargyl ethers were partially hydrogenated to the corresponding α,α- dimethylallyl ethers which rearranged in boiling N,N-diethyl-aniline to o-isopentenylphenols in high overall yield.

AbstractComposites of perfluorinated polymer electrolyte membrane and gold electrodes bend in response to low-voltage electric stimuli and work as soft actuators like muscles. The composites were prepared by chemical plating. Charge on the electrode induces electric double layer and electro-osmotic drag of water by cation from anode to cathode through narrow channels in the perfluorinated ion-exchange resin. The electro-osmotic flow of water swells the polymer near the cathode rather than anode, and the membrane bends to the anode. The actuator comprises polymer electrolyte, electrodes, counter ion, solvent, lead wires, etc. Each component affects the performance of the actuator. Surface area of electrode and species of counter ion have drastic effect on voltage-displacement response. The response may depend on water channel structure of the polymer electrolyte. Modification of these factors improved the performance and resulted in the deflection over 360 degrees at a film actuator of 10 mm length. A tubular actuator was demonstrated as a multidirectional actuator. These actuators are applicable to artificial muscle, micro robots, or micro medical equipment inside body.
