AbstractBifid rib presents usually as an isolated and asymptomatic finding on x-rays and cadaveric dissections. This may be due to atypical process of segmentation of developing somites. Sometimes it may occur with other malformations. Aim of the case report presented here was to give a description of the characteristics ofbifidrib and to look for any associated abnormalities. During routine dissection, bifid rib was found in thoraco-abdominal region of a male cadaver. The dimensions of the bifid rib were measured with digital vernier calliper of resolution 0.01mm and photographed using a digital camera. Survey of other regions of the cadaver was done by dissection. Bifurcation of anterior part of right third rib enclosing an additional intercostal space was found. Follow-up dissection in other regions of the cadaver revealed characteristics of Crohn's disease of jejunum, ileum, and transverse colon and signs of dysmorphism of both the kidneys. The knowledge of such variations will be of use to the clinicians, radiologist and anatomist to investigate any incidental bifid rib finding.

Brachial plexus is the plexus of nerves, that supplies the upper limb.Variations in the branches of brachial plexus are common but variations in the roots and trunks are very rare. Here, we report one of the such rare variations in the formations of the lower trunk of the brachial plexus in the right upper limb of a male cadaver. In the present case the lower trunk was formed by the union of ventral rami of C7,C8 and T1 nerve roots. The middle trunk was absent. Upper trunk formation was normal. Profunda Femoris Artery (PFA) arises from lateral aspect of femoral artery 3.5 cm distal to inguinal ligament. It gives lateral and medial circumflex femoral arteries from lateral and medial aspect respectively. Following variation was reported in right lower limb of a 60 year male cadaver, during routine dissection for medical students. Profunda Femoris Artery (PFA) arose from lateral aspect of femoral artery 1 cm distal to inguinal ligament, running laterally and down words parallel to femoral artery the profunda femoris passed beneath rectus femoris, sartorius and vastus medialis successively, finally pierced adductor magnus as forth perforator artery, 6 cm above knee joint.

AbstractThe coexistence of different muscular-neurovascular variations is of significant clinical importance. A male cadaver, 76 years old at death, was subjected to routine anatomical dissection; the procedure was performed for research and teaching purposes at the Department of Anatomical Dissection and Donation, Medical University of Lodz. The right forearm and hand were dissected using standard techniques according to a strictly specified protocol. The presence accessory head of the flexor pollicis longus may potentially compress the anterior interosseous nerve. The present case report describes a rare variant of the ulnar head of the pronator teres, characterized by two independent bands (i.e., two proximal attachments). The main band originates from the coronoid process and the second originates from the tendon of the biceps brachii. This type of attachment could potentially affect the compression of the ulnar artery running between the two bands. Additionally, the accessory head of the flexor pollicis longus was observed, which started on the medial epicondyle; its coexistence with a high division median nerve creates a potential pressure site on the anterior interesosseous nerve.

A 2-month-old boy presented to us with bilateral microtia, left lower motor neuron facial palsy, micrognathia, hemivertebra, bifid rib, bifid thumb and absent/hypoplastic right-sided depressor anguli oris. He had bilateral external auditory canal atresia, although response to loud sound was present. Brain stem evoked response audiometry (BERA) was advised at 3 months of age. Karyotype was normal. We diagnosed him as a case of oculo-auriculo-vertebral spectrum. Child was discharged on request by the family with the plan for bone-anchored hearing aid after BERA and plan for pinna and ear canal reconstruction at a later age but child did not come for any follow-up visit. On telephonic enquiry, it was found that he is thriving well but has developmental delay including speech delay. We conclude that children presenting with external ear abnormalities should be screened for multiple congenital anomalies so that a multidisciplinary approach to management can be planned.

Abstract Variations of the testicular veins are relevant in clinical cases of varicocele and in other therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. We report herein on a unique variation of the left testicular vein observed in an adult male cadaver. The left testicular vein bifurcated to give rise to left and right branches which terminated by joining the left renal vein. There was also an oblique communication between the two branches of the left testicular vein. A slender communicating vein arose from the left branch of the left testicular vein and ascended upwards in front of the left renal vein and terminated into the left suprarenal vein. The right branch of the testicular vein received an unnamed adipose tributary from the side of the abdominal aorta. Awareness of these venous anomalies can help surgeons accurately ligate abnormal venous communications and avoid iatrogenic injuries and it is important for proper surgical management.

AbstractThis study presents a bilateral variation in the formation of trunks of brachial plexus in a male cadaver. The right brachial plexus was composed of six roots (C4-T1) and the left brachial plexus of five roots (C5-T1). Both formed four trunks thus changing the contributions of the anterior divisions of the cervical nerves involved in the formation of the cords and the five main somatic motor nerves for the upper limb. There are very few case reports in the scientific literature on this topic; thus making the present study very relevant.

During dissection in middle-aged male cadaver, an aberrant radial artery was noticed in the left arm. The artery was taking origin from the upper part of the brachial artery i.e. at a point when axillary artery leaves the axilla and becomes brachial artery.Course of the aberrant vessel was studied in the arm and the forearm. In the upper part of arm the vessel took origin on the lateral side of brachial plexus trunks and traveled to the lateral region of the cubital fossa travelling lateral to the biceps brachii and deep to skin, superficial and deep fascia. In the lower part of the arm i.e. just above the cubital fossa, aberrant vessel was lateral and entered the forearm deep to the pronator teres. Throughout its course the vessel laid superficial to forearm muscles, it was covered by the skin superficial and deep fascia. At the wrist its position was normal i.e. against anterior border of the radius.

Several thoracic vasculature variations were observed in an 81-year-old male cadaver during routine dissection. These included 5 common trunks of posterior intercostal arteries, a descending branch of the right vertebral artery, and atypical neurovascular relationships within intercostal spaces. On the right side, two common trunks of posterior intercostal arteries were observed supplying the 4th-7th intercostal spaces and 9th-11th intercostal spaces, respectively. There was also a small accessary branch supplying the 9th intercostal space. The first three posterior intercostal spaces on the right were supplied by a descending branch of the vertebral artery. On the left side, three common trunks of posterior intercostal arteries were encountered, supplying intercostal spaces 3-5, 6-7, and 11 plus the subcostal space. An atypical neurovascular relationship was observed in the right 6th intercostal space, as well as the left 2nd, 3rd, and 6th intercostal spaces. This is the first case report that presents 5 common trunks of posterior intercostal arteries, as well as common trunks in conjunction with other arterial variation in the posterior thoracic wall. These variations carry a high level of clinical significance and may be helpful in guiding decision-making related to surgical procedures related to the posterior thoracic cavity and spine.

Abstract Introduction: The ulnar nerve is one of the two terminal branches of the medial cord. It passes down the medial aspect of the arm and runs posterior to medial epicondyle to enter the forearm without branching. Previously, ulnar nerve variations have been consistently located in origin or course of the distal branches. Case Report: In this present case, an unreported rare bifurcation of ulnar nerve was seen in the left lower arm of a 65 year male cadaver with the resulting posteromedial and anterolateral branches arising above the medial epicondyle in.Its phylogeny and implications are discussed in detail. Conclusion: A lack of awareness of variations might complicate surgical repair and may cause ineffective nerve blockade.
