Mullite-cordierite ceramics was prepared by the three composition of talc, kaolin (kaolin from Naratiwas in Thailand) (NT) and alumina. The different amounts of alumina (5, 10, 15 and 20 wt%) were added to produce various mullite-cordierite alumina mixtures which are denoted as NA, NB, NC and ND, respectively. The mixtures were pressed into rectangular shapes by hydraulic press with the pressure of 150 kg/cm2 then sintered at temperature of 1300 °C and 1350 °C for 2 hours. The morphology of the synthesized mullite-cordierite samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and physical-mechanical properties were investigated. Mullite-cordierite was successfully synthesized. The XRD result was represented phases of mullite and cordierite. The NA samples sintered at temperature of 1300 °C indicated the best physical-mechanical properties including bulk density (2.23 g/cm3), flexural strength (44.4 MPa) and thermal expansion coefficients (5.00x10-6). The other NA samples sintered at temperature of 1350 °C exhibited the bulk density, flexural strength and thermal expansion coefficients are 2.21 g/cm3, 47.8 MPa and 4.99 x10-6, respectively. The thermal expansion coefficient of the NT sintered samples have been plotted the length change relative to measuring temperature ranging of 30-1200 °C. The suitable condition of the synthesized mullite-cordierite ceramics is finally obtained the NA samples with 5 percent weight of alumina composition sintered at the temperature of 1350 °C.

This study was designed to evaluate mechanical properties and the marginal fitness of glass infiltrated alumina core fabricated from aqueous alumina tape. Utilizing the automatic Dr. Blade model (DP-150 of Japan JinChungjungGi manufacturer) fabricated the slurry into 0.5 ㎜ thickness aqueous-based alumina tape. The coefficient of thermal expansion and biaxial flexural strength of alumina composite produced from alumina tape were investigated. Three upper central resin incisors were prepared with 90o, 110o, 135o shoulder margin for all-ceramic crown. Individual tooth model’s impressions were taken 15times each to make epoxy resin die. Cores were made of alumina tape to each and every dies. Crown setting was done on the epoxy resin dies. The specimens were evaluated for measuring for marginal gaps of glass infiltrated alumina core fabricated from aqueous alumina tapes under 180 magnifications with Kan Scope(Sometech Vision, Korea) was done. The retained measurements were analyzed with Turkey’s Studentized Range Test for marginal fitness of each specimen. Coefficient of thermal expansion of alumina tape was 7.5x10-6/°C, and biaxial flexural strength was observed to be 498±32MPa. The marginal fits of alumina cores made of alumina tapes showed the least marginal gap of 41.5 ㎛ in the 110o shoulder margin, and increasingly with 135o, 90o shoulder margin. Marginal fitness should be better in angles larger than 90o.

Si/Al composites with different Si particle sizes were fabricated using spark plasma sintering process for electronic packaging. The density, thermal conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion and flexural strength of the composites were investigated. Effect of Si particle size on structure and properties of the Si/Al composites were studied. The results showed that the Si/Al composites synthesized by spark plasma sintering were composed of Si and Al. Al was uniformly distributed among the Si phase, leading to a high thermal conductivity (>120 W/m·k). The relative density of the Si/Al composites decreased with increasing Si particle size. Small Si particle size produced small grains, leading to a low coefficient of thermal expansion and a high strength. There is an optimal matching among the thermal conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion and flexural strength when the Si particle size was 44 um.
