We have impregnated chromium(iii) onto a particulate niobium oxide to make bulk oxide–oxide interfaces, identifying by a combination of XPS and diffuse reflectance the energy of the metal-to-metal charge transfer transition that is responsible for the visible light photocatalytic decomposition of methyl orange.
