MnFe2O4@TpPa-1 adsorbent was developed by co-precipitation and solvothermal method, using ?-ketoenamine linked covalent organic frameworks (COFs, TpPa-1) as supporting material to alleviate the aggregation of MnFe2O4. The properties were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, VSM, pHpzc, and N2 adsorption-desorption. The experimental results showed that the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir model best described the adsorption process, suggesting that the adsorption process was chemisorption and spontaneous endothermic reaction, and the maximum adsorption capacity of Bisphenol A (BPA) was 926.65 mg.g-1. The main adsorption mechanism of BPA was hydrogen bonding and ?-? conjugation between active functional groups in the TpPa-1 skeleton and BPA. Furthermore, the magnetic MnFe2O4@TpPa-1 showed good regeneration ability, indicating that MnFe2O4@TpPa-1 could be used in water treatment.

AbstractIn this paper, novel composite materials from modified roasted date pits using ferrocyanides were developed and investigated for the recovery of lithium ions (Li+) from seawater reverse osmosis (RO) brine. Two composite materials were prepared from roasted date pits (RDP) as supporting material, namely potassium copper hexacyanoferrate-date pits composite (RDP-FC-Cu), and potassium nickel hexacyanoferrate-date pits composite (RDP-FC-Ni). The physiochemical characterization of the RO brine revealed that it contained a variety of metals and salts such as strontium, zinc, lithium, and sodium chlorides. RDP-FC-Cu and RDP-FC-Ni exhibited enhanced chemical and physical characteristics than RDP. The optimum pH, which attained the highest adsorption removal (%) for all adsorbents, was at pH 6. In addition, the highest adsorption capacities for the adsorbents were observed at the initial lithium concentration of 100 mg/L. The BET surface area analysis confirmed the increase in the total surface area of the prepared composites from 2.518 m2/g for RDP to 4.758 m2/g for RDP-FC-Cu and 5.262 m2/g for RDP-FC-Ni. A strong sharp infrared peak appeared for the RDP-FC-Cu and RDP-FC-Ni at 2078 cm−1. This peak corresponds to the C≡N bond, which indicates the presence of potassium hexacyanoferrate, K4[Fe(CN)6]. The adsorption removal of lithium at a variety of pH ranges was the highest for RDP-FC-Cu followed by RDP-FC-Ni and RDP. The continuous increase in the adsorption capacity for lithium with increasing initial lithium concentrations was also observed. This could be mainly attributed to enhance and increased lithium mass transfer onto the available adsorption active sites on the adsorbents’ surface. The differences in the adsorption in terms of percent adsorption removal were clear and significant between the three adsorbents (P value < 0.05). All adsorbents in the study showed a high lithium desorption percentage as high as 99%. Both composites achieved full recoveries of lithium from the RO brine sample despite the presence of various other competing ions.

A novel chitosan/grafted halloysitenanotubes@Zngmagnetite quaternary nanocomposite (Ch/g-HNTs@ZngM) was fabricated using the chemical co-precipitation method to remove the ions of Cr (III), Fe (III), and Mn (II) from wastewater. The characteristics of the synthesized Ch/g-HNTs@ZngM quaternary nanocomposite were investigated using FTIR, SEM, XRD, GPC, TGA, TEM, and surface zeta potential. The characterization analysis proved that the mentioned nanocomposite structure contains multiple functional groups with variable efficiencies. Additionally, they proved the existence of magnetic iron in the nanocomposite internal structure with the clarity of presentation of gaps and holes of high electron density on its surface. The results showed that the pH and time to reach an equilibrium system for all the studied metal ions were obtained at 9.0 and 60 min, respectively. The synthesized Ch/g-HNTs@ZngM nanocomposite exhibited maximum adsorption removal of 95.2%, 99.06%, and 87.1% for Cr (III), Fe (III), and Mn (II) ions, respectively. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model and, for isotherm, the Langmuir model were best fitted with the experimental data. The thermodynamic parameters indicated the exothermic and spontaneous nature of the adsorption reaction as proven by the ΔH° and ΔG° values. Additionally, chemical adsorption by the coordination bond is supposed as the main mechanism of adsorption of the mentioned metal ions on the nanocomposite. Finally, Ch/g-HNTs@ZngM displays prospected advantages, such as a low-expense adsorbent, high efficiency and availability, and an eco-friendly source, that will reduce the environmental load via an environmentally friendly method.
