In this study, the dynamic mechanical properties of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HFRC) are analyzed with respect to failure mode, dynamic increase factor (DIF), and peak strain by means of a SHPB testing apparatus. The factors that influence the dynamic mechanical properties include fiber type and fiber content. It is concluded that the best dynamic mechanical properties of fibers are CS-PHFRC at medium and low strain rates and AS-PHFRC at a high strain rate. Within a certain range, the higher the fiber content is, the larger the DIF of the corresponding HFRC and the more obvious the increase in dynamic compressive strength. AS-CSHFRC improves the dynamic compressive deformability of the HFRC. The polypropylene fiber causes plasticity, as shown in the failure mode of concrete. The Ottosen nonlinear elastic model, modified by introducing the damage factor, can better describe the dynamic mechanical properties of HFRC.

One-stage light gas gun is used to study the dynamic mechanical properties of reinforced concrete (SFRC) subjected to shock loading. The material of projectile is the same as of the target. The stress-time curves are recorded by three manganin pressure transducers embedded in the targets beforehand. The data of experiment are analyzed by self-designed program using the path line principle of Lagrangian analysis method. With the stress records, complete histories of particle velocity, density (and thus strain) and specific internal energy can be obtained at any point within the gaged region of the material. Moreover, the numerical constitutive relations of RC are obtained and the strain rate ranges from 104 to 105 per second. The result of experiment indicates that the stress-strain curves of SFRC present stagnant-return properties. And some other dynamic properties can be gained, such as rate dependent, waveform dissipation etc.

In order to solve the problem of highly brittle shaft lining under dynamic loading, a combination of hybrid fiber concrete mixed with steel and polypropylene fiber is proposed to make shaft lining. C60, the concrete commonly used in shaft lining, was selected as the reference group. The static mechanical properties, dynamic mechanical properties, and crack failure characteristics of the hybrid fiber concrete were experimentally studied. The test results showed that compared to the reference group concrete, the compressive strength of the hybrid fiber-reinforced concrete did not significantly increase, but the splitting tensile strength increased by 60.4%. The split Hopkinson compression bar results showed that the optimal group peak stress and peak strain of the hybrid fiber concrete increased by 58.2% and 79.2%, respectively, and the dynamic toughness increased by 68.1%. The strain distribution before visible cracks was analyzed by the DIC technology. The results showed that the strain dispersion phenomenon of the fiber-reinforced concrete specimen was stronger than that of the reference group concrete. By comparing the crack failure forms of the specimens, it was found that compared to the reference group concrete, the fiber-reinforced concrete specimens showed the characteristics of continuous and slow ductile failure. The above results suggest that HFRC has significantly high dynamic splitting tensile strength and compressive deformation capacity, as well as a certain anti-disturbance effect. It is an excellent construction material for deep mines under complex working conditions.

This paper presents the results of an experimental research designed to investigate the dynamic mechanical properties and constitutive model of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC), including steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) and polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete (PFRC) under fast loading. Experimental results are achieved by using the electrohydraulic servo loading test method, implying that the dynamic mechanical properties of PFRC and SFRC, such as peak stress, peak strain, and toughness, are positively affected by strain rate. The experimental elastic modulus test results of FRC with different fiber contents indicate that the elastic modulus is positively affected by polypropylene or steel fibers and increases with the increment of fiber content. Finally, the experimental stress-strain curves obtained in the MTS electrohydraulic servo system test are fitted by a damage dynamic constitutive model of FRC. The good fitting with experimental results proves that the model could be appropriate to describe the dynamic mechanical properties of FRC.
