The paper analyzes the effectiveness of magnetic resonance imaging with cartilage diagram in diagnosing signs of professional deforming arthrosis of knee joints in miners working in conditions of significant physical loading. Aim of the research – to determine of diagnostic efficiency of indicators of magnetic resonance imaging of the knee joint and cartilage diagram in miners of the main occupations suffering from deforming arthrosis. Methods. The research is conducted in 30 miners of basic occupations: 20 mining workers of breakage face (MWBF) and 10 machinists of shearer mining machines (МSMM) have been treated in the inpatient department of occupational pathology of the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital in 2015-2017 due to deforming arthrosis. Damages of the main anatomical elements of the knee joint with arthrosis were analyzed, visualized initially with the help of MRI, and then - cartilage diagram. Results. According to the MRI data, in miners of the main occupations with arthrosis of the knee joint the posterior cross-shaped ligament are most commonly affected (in 75.0±9.7 % MWBF and 70.0±14.5 % МSMM), damage to the medial collateral ligament are diagnosed less frequently (in 5.0±4.9 % in the MWBF and in 10.0±9.5 % in the МSMM). On average 3.8±0.4 modified elements of the knee joint are visualized in patients, whereas 4.8±0.1 affected areas are visualized on the cartilage diagram (р<0.05). In 86.7±6.2 % patients, in the analysis of cartilage diagram, changes in all five analyzed areas are diagnosed, indicating a higher efficiency of the diagnosis of changes in the structures of the joint with DA of the professional etiology of the method of cartilage diagram compared with MRI. According to the cartilage diagram the most significant changes are noted in the hypertrophy of the femur: among all miners 62.5±0.3 ms (medial) and 62.6±0.4 ms (lateral), in the MWBF group the average time of Т2-delay is the largest in the area of the medial hypertrophy of the femur is 60.9±2.3 ms, in the МSMM group – in the area of the lateral hypertrophy of the femur: 66.7±3.3 ms, which can be linked to the peculiarities of the forced working position of miners of these professions and the kinetics of joint structures. These results can be used to diagnose the initial lesions of joint structures with DA of professional genesis, as well as the creation of prognostic models for determining the the degree of risk of development of knee joint damage, which will allow to improve the system of personified approach to diagnostic and preventive measures in working persons in conditions of considerable physical activity and forced working position.

Objective.Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been increasingly recognized as a critical tool for the assessment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is able to reliably identify synovitis, bone marrow edema, bone erosion, and joint space narrowing (JSN)/cartilage loss. Understanding the exact relationship between each MRI feature and local synovial pathobiology is critical to dissect disease pathogenesis as well as develop future predictive models.Methods.A systematic review was performed of the current published literature examining the relationship between MRI abnormalities and synovial pathobiology in patients with RA.Results.Eighteen studies were identified; most focused on validation of MRI as a tool to detect and quantify synovitis, with a significant relationship demonstrated. Additionally, from the limited data available, a critical role seems likely for synovial pathways, at least in driving joint damage. However, there was a lack of data examining the relationship between synovial pathobiology and bone marrow abnormalities and JSN.Conclusion.Although understanding the interrelationship of these disease biomarkers offers the potential to enhance the predictive validity of modern imaging with concomitant synovial pathobiological analysis, further studies integrating MRI with synovial tissue analysis in well-controlled cohorts at distinct disease stages before and after therapeutic intervention are required to achieve this.

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between relative peripheral refraction and retinal shape by 2-D magnetic resonance imaging in high myopes. Thirty-five young adults aged 20 to 30 years participated in this study with 16 high myopes (spherical equivalent < −6.00 D) and 19 emmetropes (+0.50 to −0.50 D). An open field autorefractor was used to measure refractions from the center out to 60° in the horizontal meridian and out to around 20° in the vertical meridian, with a step of 3 degrees. Axial length was measured by using A-scan ultrasonography. In addition, images of axial, sagittal, and tangential sections were obtained using 2-D magnetic resonance imaging. The highly myopic group had a significantly relative peripheral hyperopic refraction and showed a prolate ocular shape compared to the emmetropic group. The highly myopic group had relative peripheral hyperopic refraction and showed a prolate ocular form. Significant differences in the ratios of height/axial (1.01 ± 0.02 vs. 0.94 ± 0.03) and width/axial (0.99 ± 0.17 vs. 0.93 ± 0.04) were found from the MRI images between the emmetropic and the highly myopic eyes (p < 0.001). There was a negative correlation between the retina’s curvature and relative peripheral refraction for both temporal (Pearson r = −0.459; p < 0.01) and nasal (Pearson r = −0.277; p = 0.011) retina. For the highly myopic eyes, the amount of peripheral hyperopic defocus is correlated to its ocular shape deformation. This could be the first study investigating the relationship between peripheral refraction and ocular dimension in high myopes, and it is hoped to provide useful knowledge of how the development of myopia changes human eye shape.

Myocardial inflammation is an important cause of cardiovascular morbidity and sudden cardiac death in athletes. The relationship between sports practice and myocardial inflammation is complex, and recent data from studies concerning cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and endomyocardial biopsy have substantially added to our understanding of the challenges encountered in the comprehensive care of athletes with myocarditis or inflammatory cardiomyopathy (ICM). In this review, we provide an overview of the current knowledge on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of myocarditis, ICM, and myopericarditis/perimyocarditis in athletes, with a special emphasis on arrhythmias, patient-tailored therapies, and sports eligibility issues.
