Hydrocolloids are commonly used in canned pet food. However, their functional effects have not been quantified in this food format. The objective was to determine the effects of select hydrocolloids on batter consistency, heat penetration, and texture of canned pet food. Treatments were added to the formula as 1% dextrose (D) and 0.5% guar gum with 0.5% of either dextrose (DG), kappa carrageenan (KCG), locust bean gum (LBG), or xanthan gum (XGG). Data were analyzed as a 1-way ANOVA with batch as a random effect and separated by Fisher’s LSD at p < 0.05. Batter consistency (distance traveled in 30 s) thickened with increasing levels of hydrocolloids (thinnest to thickest: 23.63 to 2.75 cm). The D treatment (12.08 min) accumulated greater lethality during the heating cycle compared to all others (average 9.09 min). The KCG treatment (27.00 N) was the firmest and D and DG (average 8.75 N) the softest with LBG and XGG (average 15.59 N) intermediate. Toughness was similar except D (67 N·mm) was less tough than DG (117 N·mm). The D treatment showed the greatest expressible moisture (49.91%), LBG and XGG the lowest (average 16.54%), and DG and KCG intermediate (average 25.26%). Hydrocolloids influenced heat penetration, likely due to differences in batter consistency, and affected finished product texture.

Abstract C(CH2Cl)3(CH3), melting point Tm = 291.3 K, shows in the DTA/DSC experiment a phase tran-sition from an orientationally disordered plastic phase I into an ordered phase II at TI ⃗ II = 235.9 K. From 77 K up to TII ⃗ I the 35Cl NQR spectrum is a triplet with (ν in MHz, T=77 K) ν1 = 34.213, ν2 = 34.183, ν3 = 33.786. The 35Cl NQR fade-out temperature Tf = 247 K coincides with TII ⃗ I found from the DSC experiment. The plastic phase of 2-chloromethyl-2-methyl-l,3-propanediol is cubic bcc, Im3m, Z = 2 and the lattice constant increases linearly 755 pm at 235 K to 768 pm at 283 K. In the heating cycle we found (ΔH in kJ/mol): ΔHII ⃗ I = 12.0, ΔSm/R = 1.0. The compound belongs to the group of plastic molecules formed by ellipsoid like distorted tetrahedra and is derived by substitution from methane. The crystal structure of 2,2-bis(bromomethyl)-1,3-propanediol was determined. DTA-DSC show that an orientationally disordered plastic phase does not exist. At room temperature C(CH2Br)2(CH2OH)2 crystallizes monoclinic, space group Cc, Z = 4, a = 628.2 pm, 6 = 2015.5 pm, c = 659.6 pm, β = 94.27°. The molecules interact by intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the OH-groups and by van der Waals forces Br…Br.

With the assistance of surface plasmons, a vesicle intermediate of Au@PNIPAM clusters is revealed during the cooling cycle, which is due to the co-aggregation of free PNIPAM beads and Au@PNIPAM aggregates in the heating cycle.

In the present work, a ester of glucose (a) with 4-(4-(ethoxybenzoyloxy) phenoxy) -6-oxohexanoic acid side–arms has been synthesized. Compared withbandc, reported previously, ahad the same side-arms but different chiral core. The phase behaviors of three star-shaped liquid crystals (a, b, c) have been compared and studied, and the effect of the different structure of chiral core on the phase behaviors of the star-shaped liquid crystals has been discussed. a, b andcdisplayed cholesteric phase, unlike the nematic side arm.a, b andcwere all laevo-rotationary, unlike their parent cores. The melting temperature of a, b andcdecreased with the increase of the sugar ring of the chiral core. The mesomorphic region ofaon cooling cycle was wider than that on heating cycle. Forbandc, the case was similar.

Rapid electrical heating cycle injection molding (ERHCM) technology is a promising green manufacturing technology for plastic parts. By using this technology, the defects that usually appear on the surface of conventionally injected parts, such as weld and flow marks, can be avoided effectively. This paper studies rapid electrical heating cycle injection molding technology and its mold structure design techniques. Temperature distribution uniformity and heating efficiency on the mold cavity surface are considered as the major influencing factors on product quality and production efficiency. A multi-objective optimization model for the heating rods layout in the mold cavity plate is formulated to optimize temperature distribution uniformity and heating efficiency with respect to the heating rods layout. An application to a liquid crystal display TV panel is implemented successfully using a genetic algorithm.
