A series of monoazo disperse dyes were synthesized by coupling diazotized 4-amino-N-dodecyl-1,8-naphthalimide with N,N-dialkyl anilines and naphthol derivatives. The synthesized intermediates and the dyes were characterized using FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis (CHN). Visible absorption spectra of the dyes were examined in solvents of different polarities. The electronic absorption spectra cover a wavelength (?max) range of 515-535 nm in DMF at uniformly absorption intensity between 1.59-3.00?104 L mol-1 cm-1. The dyes gave deep and bright intense hues of light violet, maroon, pink and neon red on polyester fabrics. The dyes generally showed good washing and perspiration rating but poor to moderate light fastness properties on woven polyester fabric and could be recommended for commercial outlets.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to discuss the synthesis of new azo disperse dyes containing pyridine ring for dyeing acetate polyester and other fibres. Design/methodology/approach – Cycloaddition reaction of 3-formylchromone (Compound 1) with ethyl vinyl ether (Compound 2) afforded 3-ethoxy-4,4a-dihyro-3H,10H-pyrano[4,3-b]chromen-10-one (Compound 3). Reaction of 3 with aqueous ammonium sulphite in ethanol furnishes 3-(2-hydroxybenzoyl)pyridine (Compound 5). Compound 5 was fully characterised by spectroscopic techniques. Ten arylazo derivatives of Compound 6 have been prepared for use as dyestuffs. The effect of the nature and orientation of substituents in the diazonium component on the colour of azo dyes is discussed. Dyeing performance of the dyes on different fibres has also been assessed. Findings – Most of the dyes showed good affinity to polyester fibres. On the other hand, polyacrylic fibres were only stained to weak shades. Originality/value – No details regarding the synthesis and dyeing performance of such dyes are reported before in the literature.

This study aimed to use microwave irradiation as a green technique, not only to enhance the dyeing efficiency of disperse-colored polyester fabrics, but also to conserve resources and minimize the environmental effects. Arylazopyrazolopyrimidinones dyes 1-9 were applied to polyester fabrics at 2% shade using conventional method and microwave at 100 °C. Both the color intensity expressed as dye absorption and the fastness characteristics of the dyed fabric were investigated. The K/S values are increased by increasing the time of irradiation from 10-60 minutes. The dyed substrate displayed good light fastness, and very good fastness levels to rubbing, perspiration washing, and sublimation, respectively.

Diphenyl (4′-aminobiphenyl-4-ylamino)(pyridin-3-yl)methylphosphonate(1)was synthesized in 88% yield from reaction of pyridine-3-carboxaldehyde with benzidine and triphenylphosphite in the presence of titanium tetrachloride as a catalyst. Diazotization of1gave the corresponding diazonium salt2which was coupled with several hydroxyl or amino compounds to give the corresponding azo dyes3–8in 82–88% yields after crystallization. The dyes produced were applied to polyesters as disperse dyes and their fastness properties were elevated.

In this paper synthesis of some new mono azo disperse dyes based on 2-amino 5-(4'-nitro phenyl) 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety has been reported. Preparation of mono azo disperse dyes via condensation and nally diazotization of substituted primary amine and condensed with N-(4-(4'-chlorophenyl)thiazol-2-yl)-2-((5-(4'-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)amino)acetamide (RR) to 1 give a series of mono azo dyes (RR -RR ). All the dyes were characterized by IR, H NMR, UV-Visible and elemental analysis and their dyeing 1 15 performance evaluated using High Temperature High Pressure method (HTHP) at 130°C on polyester fabric. All dyes gave good to excellent fastness properties.

Novel bisazo-bisazomethine disperse dyes were prepared by the coupling of diazotized solutions of various aromatic amines with 2,2'-{sulfonylbis [4,1-phenylene nitrilomethylylidene]} diphenol (SB). Above Schiff base was prepared by the condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde with 4,4’-sulphonyl- dianiline (Dapson). The resultant dyes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and1H NMR spectral studies. The UV Visible absorption spectral data were investigated in dimethylformamide (DMF) and are discussed in terms of structural property relationship. Their dyeing performance as disperse dyes has been assessed on polyester fabrics. The results show that a better hue was obtained on polyester fabrics and have mild to moderate fastness properties.
