Abstract. Automated electronic data loggers revolutionized environmental monitoring by enabling reliable high-frequency measurements. However, the potential to monitor the complex environmental interactions involved in global change has not been fully realized due to the high cost and lack of modularity of commercially available data loggers. Responding to this need, we developed the ALog (Arduino logger) series of three open-source data loggers, based on the popular and easy-to-program Arduino microcontroller platform. ALog data loggers are low cost, lightweight, and low power; they function between −30 and +60 ∘C, can be powered by readily available alkaline batteries, and can store up to 32 GB of data locally. They are compatible with standard environmental sensors, and the ALog firmware library may be expanded to add additional sensor support. The ALog has measured parameters linked to weather, streamflow, and glacier melt during deployments of days to years at field sites in the USA, Canada, Argentina, and Ecuador. The result of this work is a robust and field-tested open-source data logger that is the direct descendant of dozens of individuals' contributions to the growing open-source electronics movement.

The purpose of this research is to show part of the Mexican electronic art scenario, which in many cases is produce with limited resources, low-cost materials and free and open source data and software. What characterized the most this artistic works is the concept and the main idea, which is related to the Latin American context, because of that, these works of art are unique. The main statement of this research is to find evidence of the importance of the concept despite the materials, more than the spectacle that some works could offer to an audience with unlimited resources. Through this, an analysis of Electronic Art as an expression of social conditions take place.

Open-source data are information provided free online. It is gaining popularity in science research, especially for modeling species distribution. MaxEnt is an open-source software that models using presence-only data and environmental variables. These variables can also be found online and are generally free. Using all of these open-source data and tools makes species distribution modeling (SDM) more accessible. With the rapid changes our planet is undergoing, SDM helps understand future habitat suitability for species. Due to increasing interest in biogeographic research, SDM has increased for marine species, which were previously not commonly found in this modeling. Here we provide examples of where to obtain the data and how the modeling can be performed and taught.
