Abstract Context Landscape ecology as an interdisciplinary science has great potential to inform landscape planning, an integrated, collaborative practice on a regional scale. It is commonly assumed that landscape ecological concepts play a key role in this quest. Objectives The aim of the paper is to identify landscape ecological concepts that are currently receiving attention in the scientific literature, analyze the prevalence of these concepts and understand how these concepts can inform the steps of the planning processes, from goal establishment to monitoring. Methods We analyzed all empirical and overview papers that have been published in four key academic journals in the field of landscape ecology and landscape planning in the years 2015–2019 (n = 1918). Title, abstract and keywords of all papers were read in order to identify landscape ecological concepts. A keyword search was applied to identify the use of these and previously mentioned concepts in common steps of the planning cycle. Results The concepts Structure, Function, Change, Scale, Landscape as human experience, Land use, Landscape and ecosystem services, Green infrastructure, and Landscape resilience were prominently represented in the analyzed literature. Landscape ecological concepts were most often mentioned in context of the landscape analysis steps and least in context of goal establishment and monitoring. Conclusions The current literature spots landscape ecological concepts with great potential to support landscape planning. However, future studies need to address directly how these concepts can inform all steps in the planning process.

As colleges and universities to improve the overall level of the building, a good campus landscape is an important part of campus construction. In this paper, the new campus of the University of Linyi landscape ideas, landscape planning and design in general, the central area of landscape design and water system planning in four areas, described the landscape in Linyi University campus to block a corridor decorated with a matrix structure for the model of the landscape, ecological as a precondition to build growth and open campus planning and design ideas. To the construction of a modern university campus landscape play a role in learning.

In the last decades, rural landscape in Europe has evolved from an agricultural by-product to an important public good. This development creates not only new challenges to farming practices, it also makes participation and public involvement an indispensable tool for sustainable landscape planning. This is especially true for many European mountain regions, where tourism represents an important source of income and conflicts between locals’ and tourists’ interests should be avoided. In our study, we analyze whether discrepancies in the perception of the Alpine landscape can be located between locals and tourists and, if these differences exist, in which aspects these two groups are differing. A model employing three general factors able to describe landscape preferences regardless of the personal background is suggested and validated by confirmatory factor analysis. Our major finding shows that an attractive landscape for tourists does not have to be contradictory to a landscape that supports a high living quality for locals. Compromises in landscape planning between locals’ and tourists’ requirements seem often not to be necessary as they, generally, do not differ in the way they experience and assess the  landscape.

The problem of creating a landscape environment considering the cultural and educational orientation in the structure of objects of the landscape and recreational zone of cities is observed. Specialized cultural and cognitive parks of ideological and thematic orientation are grouped by areas: urban planning, landscape-ecological, spatial-compositional, semiotic, typological-methodological and their main characteristics are given. The classification of specialized cultural and cognitive parks and those that ideologically affect the surrounding and inner world of man is given. The main methods used in the formation of specialized cultural and educational parks in the process of landscape-planning organization of the park environment by its phases (pre-design research, design, implementation, maintenance) are determine In each of the phases the main stages of its implementation and methods of scientific research used in it are given. When considering the issue of creating specialized cultural and cognitive parks, the general criteria to be met by the design objects that combine them were identified, a number of methods that form the algorithm for their creation were considered.

The aim of this paper is to outline current foundations for sustainable landscape management in the Vilhelmina Model Forest, northwest Sweden. A case study revealed that the remaining patches of undisturbed or less disturbed boreal forest ecosystems comprise multiple values and, thus, constitute the basis for landscape planning. By identifying these patches, it is also possible to construct a spatial planning infrastructure for implementing sustainable management and land use. A more comprehensive toolbox needs to be developed, however, including monitoring and inventory schemes for relevant biophysical and socio-economic data, better temporal resolution for cause and effect analyses, and functioning scale-flexible planning and governance instruments.
