In 1968, a weapon grave with brooches was found at Suontaka Vesitorninmäki, Hattula, Finland. Since then, the grave has been interpreted as evidence of powerful women, even female warriors and leaders in early medieval Finland. Others have denied the possibility of a woman buried with a sword and tried to explain it as a double burial. We present the first modern analysis of the grave, including an examination of its context, a soil sample analysis for microremains, and an aDNA analysis. Based on these analyses, we suggest a new interpretation: the Suontaka grave possibly belonged to an individual with sex-chromosomal aneuploidy XXY. The overall context of the grave indicates that it was a respected person whose gender identity may well have been non-binary.

In this paper, the Au doped Mn1Co9Ox was investigated for total oxidation of CO. The sol-gel method was applied to prepare this catalyst and some modern analysis methods as XRD, EPR, TPx, SEM were utilized to characterize its properties. The XRD patterns showed only Co3O4 phase without any peaks belonging to Mn or Au. However, the presence of Au and Mn was confirmed by EPR and O2-TPD results. With the aim to further apply catalyst in reality, the Au doped Mn1Co9Ox was deposited on ceramic by sol-gel, wet impregnation. The SEM images displayed the successful coating of active phase on substrate. However, the complete catalyst system didn’t have the high activity in total CO oxidation like the catalyst powder because of large agglomerations on coatings.

In this paper is examined the potential and effectiveness of two conventional geophysical methods in geotechnical research. The seismic refraction method that has been successfully used in the past for subsurface bedrock delineation in foundation projects, failed to indicate clear distinction between flysch and limestone bedrock material in the area under investigation. This failure is due to the macro-anisotropy structure of the limestone that resulted from joints, tectonic processes or/and karstic phenomena and later fillings of the voids with argillaceous material. The geoelectrical method of vertical sounding, on the other hand, although provided a clear distinction for the bedrock characterization, failed to distinguish the overburden cover from the underlain flysch formation. Finally, in this paper it is shown that for a successful application of geophysical work in  geotechnical research, it is required effective design, utilization of modern analysis methods and handling more than geophysical methods.
