Abstract Logical-to-physical device navigation for failure analysis is often used to drive physical probers and focused ion beam tools. Traditional methods of creating navigation data rely upon the use of time consuming Layout-versus-Schematic (LVS) based methods. By using existing place-and-route data, full cross-linked navigation between schematic and physical layout may be achieved in a fraction of the time that it takes for the LVS methods to be used. Place-and-route data offers significantly more information to the analyst than LVS based data.

AbstractIn this study, we target the speech act of direction-giving using variationist sociolinguistic methods within a corpus of vernacular speech from six Ontario communities. Not only do we find social and geographical correlates to linguistic choices in direction-giving, but we also establish the influence of the physical layout of the community/place in question. Direction-giving in the urban center of Toronto (Southern Ontario) contrasts with five Northern Ontario communities. Northerners use more relative directions, while Torontonians use more cardinal directions, landmarks, and proper street names – for example, Go east on Bloor to the Manulife Centre. We also find that specific lexical choices (e.g., Take a right vs. Make a right) distinguish direction-givers in Northern Ontario from those in Toronto. These differences identify direction-giving as an ideal site for sociolinguistic and dialectological investigation and corroborate previous findings documenting regional variation in Canadian English.

Abstract Superconducting gate-model quantum computer architectures provide an implementable model for practical quantum computations in the NISQ (noisy intermediate scale quantum) technology era. Due to hardware restrictions and decoherence, generating the physical layout of the quantum circuits of a gate-model quantum computer is a challenge. Here, we define a method for layout generation with a decoherence dynamics estimation in superconducting gate-model quantum computers. We propose an algorithm for the optimal placement of the quantum computational blocks of gate-model quantum circuits. We study the effects of capacitance interference on the distribution of the Gaussian noise in the Josephson energy.

Observational, descriptive, exploratory, case study with the objective of measuring the stimulus-response time of the team to alarms monitoring invasive blood pressure (IBP) and analyzing the implications of this time for the safety of the patient. From January to March 2013, 60 hours of structured observation were conducted with registration of the alarms activated by IBP monitors in an adult ICU at a military hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. 76 IBP alarms were recorded (1.26 alarms/hour), 21 of which (28%) were attended to and 55 (72%) considered as fatigued. The average response time to the alarms was 2 min. 45 sec. The deficit in human resource and physical layout were factors determining the delay in response to the alarms. The increase in response times to these alarms may compromise the safety of patients with hemodynamic instability, especially in situations such as shock and the use of vasoactive drugs.

<p>Throughout New Zealand’s public library sector, librarians, particularly those responsible for special collections, maintain and create exhibitions. They aim to reflect the depth and richness of our history, cultural heritage and society. Due to the immeasurable value of cultural heritage, it needs to be presented effectively, not only for aesthetic and preservation purposes, but also for the betterment of society. Therefore the objective of this study is to explore how exhibition principles are being applied to exhibition development and presentation in Auckland Libraries. This study will not only focus on the principles behind physical layout of the exhibitions, and selection of objects on display, it will also attempt to place exhibition design into a wider context. It will do this by exploring how library exhibitions reflect public policy, and how exhibition designers perceive their social and cultural responsibilities as representatives of public libraries. Herein lies the value of the proposed study; it will allow better informed practices by exploring the use of exhibition design principles, and the application of public policy in public.</p>

Technology has advanced to the point where it is now possible to create and distribute digital multimedia recordings of class lecture over the Internet to remote learners. More importantly, the price of this technology has decreased to the point where it is also affordable to most instructional institutions. The main factor limiting its widespread use is the knowledge required to setup and apply the technology. This article attempts to alleviate this situation by providing a detailed design for a multimedia-enabled classroom. The design includes components, physical layout, and pricing considerations. It concludes by profiling an actual implementation of the design and discussing future research plans that take advantage of the unique capabilities provided by the room.

Student and faculty needs for computer labs at Carnegie Mellon University have changed significantly in recent years to include collaborative workspace and support for multiple instructional activities during class times. The Collaborative Teaching Cluster (CTC) uses technology, furnishings, and a novel physical layout to meet these evolving needs. The CTC accommodates multiple kinds of instructional activities in one space and fosters interactions between faculty and students, group collaboration, and sharing student work.
