AbstractA case of prostatic adenocarcinoma presenting with dysphagia due to a tonsillar metastasis is described. Details of the clinical history, histopathological and autopsy findings are presented. A review of the literature suggests that this is only the second description of such an occurrence.

AbstractMetastatic carcinoma of the palatine tonsil is rare, with only 92 cases reported in the world literature. We report a case of tonsillar metastasis from the colon. This is an unusual case not only because it is the first case report of tonsillar metastasis from this site but also because the tonsillar secondary is the first sign of the primary disease.

Penoscrotal transposition is a rare congenital abnormality. We report a case presenting prenatally with ambiguous genitalia and renal anomaly on obstetric ultrasound and fetal MRI and discuss the postnatal examination and autopsy findings. We present a review of the literature, including associated gene abnormalities.

Introduction Kasabach-Merritt syndrome is characterized by the association of a consumptive thrombohemorrhagic disorder and angioma occurring usually in children. In the present study, a case of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome associated to an angiosarcoma of the breast is reported. Clinical History The tumor together with the thrombohemorrhagic disorder manifested in a 28-year-old woman. The patient underwent mastectomy. The tumor recurred in the same site 2 years later. The patient died of severe anemia 8 years after the first appearance of the angiosarcoma. Material and Methods Tissues were formalin fixed and paraffin embedded; in addition, selected sections were immunohistochemically stained. Results and Conclusions A well-differentiated angiosarcoma was visible throughout the removed organ. A review of the literature showed that only 6 cases of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome associated to malignant vascular tumors have been previously reported. All these 6 cases occurred in adult patients. On the contrary, Kasabach-Merritt syndrome associated to benign vascular tumors affects children. This is the first case occurring in the breast.

ABSTRACT Lipomas in the oral cavity are rare benign soft tissue mesenchymal neoplasms, representing1% of all benign oral tumors. Very few cases of tonsillar lipoma have been reported in the English literature. The diagnosis and differentiation of lipoma with clinically similar lesions, such as squamous papilloma, adenomas, chondromas, hamartomas and teratomas, is essential for correct treatment management and follow-up. Hanging is a common method of suicide and multiple autopsy findings can be observed at the postmortem examination. Simon's sign is a haemorrhage into the anterior aspect of the intervertebral discs of the lumbar region that can be observed in hangings and other traumatic causes of death. This finding is considered evidence of vitality. Several mechanisms have been proposed regarding bleeding development. In this paper, we present a case of hanging in which Simon's sign was observed at the autopsy. A review of the literature regarding Simon's bleeding has been performed, and a discussion of the potential mechanism is reported. Although Simon's sign may be observed in hangings, a careful evaluation of all the available data, including investigation, autopsy findings, and toxicology, is mandatory to avoid misinterpretation of death's cause and manner.

Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) comprises a small proportion of salivary gland tumors; however, it is known to be aggressive with a high rate of metastasis. Although frequent references are made to pulmonary dissemination, metastases in the pleural fluid have not been described. In this article, we report the cytologic features of metastatic SDC in the pleural fluid. The clinical history, cytomorphology and immunohistochemical features used for diagnosis are described. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of pleural fluid involvement by salivary duct carcinoma reported in the literature.
