This short article analyses the demand for and the use of educational indicators with reference to Swaziland. The data requirements are considered as well as the policy implications of establishing a fixed series, and an educational input-output table is constructed in an attempt to derive an all-embracing set of indicators. The Markov model presented here was initially created in order to help forecast what might happen to the Swaziland education system rather than to describe it. As the discussion of the data requirements below suggests, however, this can be considered a fortunate birth.

The main goal of this article is to present an overview of the input-output models which have been applied to Moldovan economy development study. We examined: static input-output model, dynamic input-output model restricted by limited energy resources, and the Markov chain approach based on the input-output tables. All these models have been examined using statistic data referring to the input-output table, constructed on the base of aggregated branches of the Moldovan economy. Static and dynamic optimization models were formulated, simulation calculation was done and analysed. Input-output table balancing problem was solved using RAS method. For dynamic model matrix of the investment coefficients was constructed. The emphasis was putt on the problem of applying the theory of Markov chain for examination of the 19 and 16 branches in the framework of the input-output model for Republic of Moldova. A square exchange matrix of order has been constructed. Every branch was considered as one of the states of the Markov chain with states. We introduced a new -th absorption state so that the examined matrix became of the order . The obtained transition matrix – probabilities matrix has been used for forecasting

AbstractUnderstanding and modeling of land use change is of great significance to environmental protection and land use planning. The cellular automata-Markov chain (CA-Markov) model is a powerful tool to predict the change of land use, and the prediction accuracy is limited by many factors. To explore the impact of land use and socio-economic factors on the prediction of CA-Markov model on county scale, this paper uses the CA-Markov model to simulate the land use of Anren County in 2016, based on the land use of 1996 and 2006. Then, the correlation between the land use, socio-economic data and the prediction accuracy was analyzed. The results show that Shannon’s evenness index and population density having an important impact on the accuracy of model predictions, negatively correlate with kappa coefficient. The research not only provides a reference for correct use of the model but also helps us to understand the driving mechanism of landscape changes.

AbstractMeta-heuristics are powerful tools for solving optimization problems whose structural properties are unknown or cannot be exploited algorithmically. We propose such a meta-heuristic for a large class of optimization problems over discrete domains based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) paradigm. We provide a comprehensive formal analysis of the performance of this algorithm on certain “easy” reference problems in a black-box setting, namely the sorting problem and the problem OneMax. In our analysis we use a Markov model of the proposed algorithm to obtain upper and lower bounds on its expected optimization time. Our bounds are essentially tight with respect to the Markov model. We show that for a suitable choice of algorithm parameters the expected optimization time is comparable to that of known algorithms and, furthermore, for other parameter regimes, the algorithm behaves less greedy and more explorative, which can be desirable in practice in order to escape local optima. Our analysis provides a precise insight on the tradeoff between optimization time and exploration. To obtain our results we introduce the notion of indistinguishability of states of a Markov chain and provide bounds on the solution of a recurrence equation with non-constant coefficients by integration.

In this paper, we consider a production machine which may fail and it is necessary to repair the machine after each failure and there are two statuses for each repair; in one case, we should replace the machine because of catastrophic failure and in the other case, only small repairs are needed. Times between failures and repair and replace times are random and demands are satisfied by inventory during repairing and replacing the machine; shortage level is limited. We model described system as a Markov chain and develop an algorithm to compute the expected number of transitions among states.
