A reassessment of the genera Chromatochlamys and Thelenella, and a new species of Strigula from the British Isles

Strigula confusa Fryday, Coppins & Common is described from the western British Isles, where it grows over bryophytes on mildly basic rocks. The concept of the genus Thelenella is expanded to include Chromatochlamys and the following new combinations are made: Thelenella larbalestieri (A. L. Sm.) Coppins & Fryday, Thelenella muscorum var. octospora (Nyl.) Coppins & Fryday, Thelenella vezdae (H. Mayrhofer & Poelt) Coppins & Fryday. Thelenella sordidula (Th. Fr.) H. Mayrhofer is reported for the first time from Europe (Svalbard).

A cladistic analysis of the genus Melanophora Meigen, 1803 (type-species: Musca grossificationis Linnaeus, 1758 [= Musca roralis Linnaeus, 1758]) is presented and the generic delimitation is critically redefined. The nominal genus-group taxon Bequaertiana Curran, 1929 (type-species: Bequaertiana argyriventris Curran, 1929) is synonymised with Melanophora Meigen syn. nov. The following new combinations are proposed: Melanophora argyriventris (Curran, 1929) comb. nov. and Melanophora basilewskyi (Peris, 1957) comb. nov. Melanophora chia sp. nov. from SW Sardinia is described, illustrated and compared with the other known species of the genus. The male of Melanophora asetosa Kugler, 1978 is described for the first time. Melanophora basilewskyi (Peris, 1957) is recorded from Kenya for the first time.

The genus Rubrocuneocoris Schuh is recognized from Vietnam for the first time, with a new species, R. vietnamensis n. sp.  The new species is described and documented with images of the habitus and male genitalic structures. Male and female genitalic structures are described for R. albescens Yasunaga. Species of Rubrocuneocoris described from Taiwan are herein transferred to Atractotomoidea Yasunaga and the following new combinations are accordingly proposed: Atractotomoidea falcis (Lin 2006) n. comb., A. maculosus (Lin 2006) n. comb., A. nodus (Lin 2006) n. comb., and A. trifidus (Lin 2006) n. comb. A revised checklist of Rubrocuneocoris is presented.

The mirine plant bug genus Neolygus Knight is reported from Nepal and North India for the first time, thus representing the first confident distributional record of this genus from the Himalayas. A new species, Neolygus machanensis, is described from Nepal. Two known members, N. bui Lu & Zheng and N. keltoni (Lu & Zheng), newly recognized as occurring in Nepal and/or North India, are diagnosed. Habitus images of live individuals and illustrations of the male genitalia are provided for all treated species. A checklist of the Old World species, and discussion of the systematic position and zoogeography of Neolygus are included. Neolygus partitus (Walker, 1873) [Capsus], N. mjohjangsanicus (Josifov, 1992) [Lygocoris], and Neolygus zebei (Günther, 1997) [Lygocoris] are proposed as new combinations.

A review of the shallow-water species of the genus Tryphosella from the British Isles is presented and a new species, Tryphosella lowryi, is described. In addition, Tryphosella minima is recorded from this region for the first time. This brings to five the total number of species of this genus now known from the British Isles. All taxa are fully described and illustrated, and a key to the species is provided.

Ctenodontina Enderlein is reported for the first time in Argentina. A new species, C. sagta sp. nov. (Argentina, Salta) is described. New combination is Ctenodontina baleta (Walker), comb. nov. with two synonimies: Pachychoeta caracasae Martin syn. nov. and Pachychoeta inca Martin syn. nov. The male and female terminalia of C. baleta (Walker). comb. nov. is illustrated and described for the first time and a key to species is presented.

A new species, Barsine pseudoradians Joshi, Singh & Volynkin sp. nov. is described from North East India (Mizoram, Assam and Meghalaya) and Nepal. The new species belongs to the Barsine prominens (Moore) species-group and is compared with B. radians (Moore, 1878), B. pluma Černy, 2009, B. syntypica Swinhoe, 1906 and B. maculifasciata (Hampson, 1894). Barsine callida (Fang, 1991) is reported for the first time from India. Its comparison with the related Barsine mesortha (Hampson, 1898) is given. Two new combinations are established: Barsine callida (Fang, 1991), comb. nov. and Barsine germana (Rothschild, 1913), comb. nov. Adults, male and female genitalia of all the reviewed species are illustrated.

AbstractAn account of the lichens of the Ben Lawers–Meall nan Tarmachan area is provided. After re-evaluating the older records, 431 species are accepted as having been reliably recorded from high ground of which 118 are reported for the first time. These include Bacidia carneopallida, Caloplaca ammiospila, C. approximata, Catapyrenium daedaleum, Ionaspis cyanocarpa, Micarea crassipes, Ochrolechia inaequatula, Omphalina pararustica, Phaeophyscia endococcina, Porocyphus rehmtcus, Protolhelenella leucothelia, Stereocaulon tornensis, and Toninia fusispora new to the British Isles. Rarities are particularly numerous on the summit cliffs and in the Lochan nan Cat corrie. An ecological description of the lichen flora of the main localities is provided. Evidence is advanced that this concentration of arctic-alpine lichens is a result of the coincidence of strongly calcareous bands within the mica-schist, an unusually severe climate, and the rugged topography which provides extensive outcrops right to the summit. The lichen flora is probably the most outstanding feature of the botany of Ben Lawers; this survey confirms the international importance of the area. One new species, Pyrenopsis multispora Coppins, is described and three new combinations are made: Bacidia carneopallida (Müll. Arg.) Coppins, B. tetramera (de Not.) Coppins, Kiliasia scotinodes (Nyl.) Coppins.

The tribe Adelungiini Baker, with Platyproctus agraphopteron Bergevin, 1932, P. melichari (Kusnezov, 1929), and P. emir sp. nov., collected on Calligonum crinitum Boiss. arabicum Sosk., is recorded for the first time from the United Arab Emirates. Symphypyga omani Kameswara Rao et Ramakrishnan, 1983 and Assiuta camena Linnavuori, 1969 are transferred to the genus Platyproctus Lindberg, 1925 based on male genitalia structure, with new combinations proposed – Platyproctus omani (Kameswara Rao et Ramakrishnan, 1983), comb. nov. and P. camena (Linnavuori, 1969), comb. nov. Platyproctus emir sp. nov. is closely related to P. camena and P. omani in general male genitalia structure, but well differs by the aedeagus with denticles on dorsal surface of the shaft and wider pygofer lobes. The genus Assiuta Linnavuori 1969 is treated as monotypic Canarian endemic, monophage on Traganum moquini Webb ex Moq. Assiuta salina is close to Emelyanogramma proxima (Dlabola, 1960) by strongly dentate ventral margin of aedeagal shaft. The lectotype is designated for Symphypyga melichari Kusnezov, 1929. Platyproctus flavidus Dubovsky, 1966 is placed in synonymy under P. marmoratus (Horváth, 1894) while P. maculatus (Pruthi, 1930) and Symphypyga melichari fuscopunctata Kusnezov, 1929 are placed in synonymy under P. melichari (Kusnezov, 1929). Illustrations of male genitalia structure for E. proxima and the photos of external views for A. salina and P. camena are given for the first time.

A short review of the genera Ecphylus Foerster, 1863 and Sycosoter Picard et Lichtenstein, 1917 is given. A new species, Ecphylus lini sp. nov., from Taiwan Island is described. Unlike all other species in the genus, it has the strongly striate second metasomal tergite. The species was reared from the bark beetle Scolytus japonicus Chapuis, 1875 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae). The genus Ecphylus is recorded in the Oriental fauna for the first time. The following new combinations are suggested: Sycosoter alboapicalis (Belokobylskij, 1993), comb. nov.; S. brevitergum (Belokobylskij, 1993), comb. nov.; S. conformis (Belokobylskij, 2009), comb. nov.; S. hahajimus (Belokobylskij et Maeto, 2008), comb. nov.; S. konishii (Belokobylskij, 2009), comb. nov.; S. medianus (Belokobylskij, Iqbal et Austin, 2004), comb. nov.; S. subtropicalis (Belokobylskij, 2009), comb. nov.; and S. topali (Papp, 1993), comb. nov.

Abstract The description of a new species of an erymid lobster, Stenodactylina beardi, from the Upper Cretaceous Haslam Formation of the Nanaimo Group on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, brings to fifteen the number of Erymidae in North America. The species are arrayed within five genera based upon configuration of carapace groove morphology, resulting in two new combinations, Stenodactylina bordenensis (Copeland, 1960) and S. foersteri (Feldmann, 1979). The new species exhibits for the first time a male pleopod and accessory structures within Erymoidea. We also provide a list of the North American species of Erymoidea.
