A p–n heterojunction semiconductor structure composed of Ce3O4 and BiVO4 has been synthesized and then incorporated into reduced graphene oxide (rGO) by the hydrothermal method. The ternary composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron diffraction spectroscopy (EDS), and UV–vis spectroscopy. The efficiency of the composites as photocatalysts was determined by studying the oxidative degradation of methyl orange in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation. The effect of parameters such as pH, catalyst loading, and concentration of the dye solution was examined in order to determine their influence on the photocatalytic activity of the composites. The composite incorporated into reduced graphene oxide presented the highest percentage (above 90%) in 2 h time, attributed to the effect of the increased surface area. The process of the enhanced photocatalytic activity has been discussed based on the energy band positions of the nanoparticles within the composite.

The Cu2O/TiO2heterostructure nanocomposites photocatalysts with different molar ratios of Cu2+/Ti4+were successfully synthesized by a simple hydrothermal procedure. The obtained samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, UV-vis DRS in order to detect the composition, the shape and the property. The photocatalytic activity of Cu2O/TiO2nanocomposites was evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange (MO) as a model compound. The experimental results showed that the prepared Cu2O/TiO2nanocomposites exhibited higher photocatalytic activity for the degradation of MO than the pure Cu2O and the commercial anatase TiO2under visible light irradiation.

The synthesis of g-C3N4/Bi2WO6composite materials with varying the g-C3N4content was reported in this investigation. The composite samples were characterized by various techniques. The photocatalytic activity of the g-C3N4/Bi2WO6products has been investigated by the degradation of methyl orange dye under visible light irradiation. The UV-vis absorption spectra show that the absorption edge of the composite sample shifts to longer wavelengths with increasing the doping amount of g-C3N4. It is revealed that the g-C3N4/Bi2WO6composite photocatalysts exhibit remarkably enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methyl orange. The high visible light photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4/Bi2WO6can be attributed to the efficient transfer and separation of charge carriers in the interface between g-C3N4and Bi2WO6particles.
