A new type of tube (the Lee tube) has been developed for use in the cultivation and enumeration of obligate anaerobes. The Lee tube is a double-walled, screw-capped tube which allows the formation of a thin cylinder of agar medium between the two walls. Anaerobiosis is achieved through deoxygenation of the deep cylinder of agar during sterilization, a minimum of head space, and use of a reducing agent to absorb oxygen introduced during the inoculation procedure. For several species of Clostridium, Bacteroides fragilis, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Veillonella alcalescens, and Pectinatus cerevisiiphilus, colony counts of cultures in the Lee tubes were comparable with those obtained in pour plates incubated in a BBL GasPak system and in anaerobic roll tubes.

The dissolution of the wool keratin has a history of several decades, but the effective dissolution method has not been found yet. In this article, a novel reducing agent TCEP (Tris (2-carboxyethyl) phosphine) was used, which has a strong ability for selective reduction of disulfide bonds. With a joint use of sodium bisulfite, the wool dissolution has a great advantage in wool processing compared with previous methods; Through amino acid analysis, it was found that the content of the cysteine decreased significantly when using the TCEP as reducing agent, and the other amino acids did not change significantly, indicating that TCEP has high selectivity for reduction of disulfide bonds, and plays a significant role to maintain the molecular weight of keratin. The efficiency of dissolution was greatly improved; dissolution time was 4h, dissolution rate was 93.6%, keratin concentration was 10%, the yield of keratin with the molecular weight more than 3500 and more than 8000 were 80% and 72% respectively. By using SDS-PAGE, we can get that the main molecular weight of the keratin was 14000-20000.

The metallurgical behavior of adjusted converter slag components during the selective reduction process were investigated by thermodynamic calculating with different modified slag composition, addition of reducing agent and reduction temperature. The activities of main slag components were drawn from the calculated values. The results showed that the activity of SiO2increased with increment of its mass fraction in slag. The solubility of SiO2increased with increment of temperature. The selective reduction was promoted by selecting the appropriate amount of modifier. Reduction order was elucidated in this paper, Fe was reduced from the slag followed by P, Mn and Si and the reduction rate of Si could reach about 51%. The metal phase was rich in Fe, Si, Mn and P as a result of the selective reduction.

ABSTRACTFormation of planar layered Al2O3/Al composites via aluminum foil anodic-spark oxidation was studied by using SEM and XRD. A lateral growth of the primary non-porous alumina islands was shown to proceed to an extent where the entire surface was covered, and this layer is responsible for determining the high thermal stability of composite. A washcoating by an alumina suspension substantially increases pore volume and water absorption capacity. Catalysts based on the platinum group metals and transition metal oxides exhibit high activity for the reactions of CO and hydrocarbon oxidations and the selective reduction of nitrogen oxides by hydrocarbons.

Abstract A new type of water-reducing agent, which contains polyamine side chains, has been theoretically studied utilizing molecular dynamics simulation (MD) in this research. The models of three types of water reducers in an aqueous solution, including SNF, PCE, and PCA, have been constructed, simulated, and analyzed. The results indicate that compared to the linear structure of SNF, the traditional PCE water-reducing agent has a stronger interaction with water molecules, so it has a better water-reducing effect. This stronger interaction is mainly provided by the side chain of PCE. PCA further enhances the hydrophilicity of its side chain based on PCE structure, leading to a stronger interaction on water molecules than traditional PCE molecules. The migration ability of water-reducing agents and other molecules in the system has been further explored. The diffusion coefficient of three water reducer molecules decreases in the following order: PCE>SNF>PCA. This is due to the interaction between molecules, especially the incompatible strength and quantity of hydrogen bonding.
