Three-dimensional cobalt deposits with good mechanical properties and stability were grown by electrocrystallization from acidic aqueous solution. The deposits exhibited a rich variety of morphology. Pattern features illustrated with sample pictures are summarized in a morphology diagram giving qualitative morphological properties as a function of solution concentration and deposition time. Gas evolution was seen to play a crucial role in the formation of rounded rather than crystal-like deposits.
