With proper optimization, high efficiency solar cells are fabricated with the perovskite layers prepared using a one-step solution process and vacuum deposition methods and the devices prepared by vacuum deposition show significantly better ambient and thermal stability.

AbstractThe <p> μc-SiC:H / <i> a-Si:H junction can be considered to be a sub-system of a n/i/p solar cell. Optimised performance of this junction can be assumed to be a key feature for obtaining high efficiency solar cells. In this paper the authors present results on the conductivity of boron doped microcrystalline hydrogenated silicon (<p> μc-Si:H) thin films deposited on amorphous substrates (e.g. glass or glass/<i> a-Si:H). It is shown that, without any treatment of the substrate or of the underlying surface, the <p> layers showed a strongly reduced conductivity. This indicates either a bad nucleation or a poor microcrystalline behaviour. By using an appropriate surface treatment of the substrate, a gain in photoconductivity of about three orders of magnitude could be obtained (σ > 3 S/cm at a layer thickness of 400Å). We conclude from this, that for thin <p> type μc-Si:H layers the nucleation conditions are essential for obtaining best electric properties of the film w.r.t. solar cell performance.Based on these results, interface treatment was successfully implemented in n/i/p solar cells deposited on TCO coated glass and stainless steel. The results of these experiments are also presented.

AbstractOver the past number of years, the power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells has remained at 25.5%, reflecting a respectable result for the general incorporation of organometallic trihalide perovskite solar cells. However, perovskite solar cells still suffer from long-term stability issues. Perovskite decomposes upon exposure to moisture, thermal, and UV-A light. Studies related to this context have remained ongoing. Recently, research was mainly conducted on the stability of perovskite against non-radiative recombination. This study improved a critical instability in perovskite solar cells arising from non-radiative recombination and UV-A light using a passivation layer. The passivation layer comprised a polyaniline (PANI) polymer as an interfacial modifier inserted between the active layer and the electron transport layer. Accordingly, the UV-A light did not reach the active layer and confined the Pb2+ ions at PANI passivation layer. This study optimized the perovskite solar cells by controlling the concentration, thickness and drying conditions of the PANI passivation layer. As a result, the efficiency of the perovskite solar cell was achieved 15.1% and showed over 84% maintain in efficiency in the ambient air for one month using the 65 nm PANI passivation layer.

Indonesia is an archipelagic nation that has many small islands where the average load is low and currently supplied by diesel power generators. The drawbacks from these generators are cost constraints from its operation. Solar cells are the solution of this problem with the support of daily average radiation in Indonesia of 4.8 kWh/m2/day. There has been a lot of technology for the construction of solar cells such as silicon based, copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS), which was already successfully commercialized. However, these technologies have been obsolete and started to reach its maximum potential. Perovskite solar cells have a very high future potential, due to the increase on the efficiency of this technology in a relatively short amount of time. The current challenge for the fabrication of perovskite solar cell is the material cost and fabrication cost. This paper discussed the low-cost fabrication of perovskite solar cell using only spin coating deposition method and relatively also low-cost materials for the structure of the perovskite solar cell itself. As a result, we achieve perovskite solar cell with VOC of 0.6 V, ISC of 13 mA, FF of 0.28, and 1.2% efficiency.
