AbstractThe strong azimuthal magnetic fields, observed in many laser plasma experiments, are shown to be a potential source of second harmonic generation. The laser imparts oscillatory velocity to electrons and exerts a longitudinal pondromotive force on them. This force in conjunction with the azimuthal magnetic field and density ripple produces a second harmonic current with significant transverse component. The latter produces resonant second harmonic radiation.

ABSTRACTOptical second harmonic generation in epitaxial layers of CdxZn1−xS and CdxZn1−xS:ZnS and CdS:CdxZn1−xS strained layer superlattices which had been removed from their substrates has been investigated. Some evidence for resonant enhancement of the second order non-linear susceptibility has been found for one sample where the onset of optical absorption was at photon energies close to that of the second harmonic radiation.

ABSTRACTThe structures of the mixed LB monolayers, composed of two different kinds of π-conjugated system, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (PHT) and pentacosa-10, 12-diynoic acid (DA), have been investigated mainly by a second harmonic generation (SHG) Maker fringe method. The mixed LB films partly contain a double-layered structure consisting of PHT and DA. The second harmonic radiation has been produced from slightly twisted PHT in the double layer. Both UV-polymerization of DA and successive heat-treatments enhanced the SHG intensities. The enhancement of the SHG intensities has been elucidated by the enlargement of the PHT twisting and the interaction between PHT and a newly formed π-conjugated system.

Second harmonic generation of femtosecond Yb3+:KY(WO4)2 laser radiation was investigated in semiconductor heterostructure grown at the singular GaAs substrate of orientation (001) and including a set of asymmetric quantum wells. Azimuth second harmonic dependence was investigated in transmission for the incidence angles of 10–70 degree, and in reflection for incidence angle of 45 degree by application of p- and s-polarized pumping radiation. Second harmonic signals from heterostructure were several times higher than those from the substrate at p-polarized pumping in transmission and for the cases of p- and s-polarized pumping in reflection. The case of s-polarized pumping radiation and p-polarized second harmonic radiation in reflection resulted in high isotropic contribution from the heterostructure to second harmonic; here, the azimuth dependencies from the heterostructure and from the substrate are essentially different

AbstractThe possibility of obtaining intense terahertz radiation due to second-order lattice nonlinearity in indium-phosphide crystals doped with iron is discussed. As a source of radiation, subterahertz gyrotrons are considered. It is shown that the efficiency of frequency doubling can reach 3%, which opens up the possibility for developing a new generation of terahertz radiation sources. The possibility of applying second-harmonic radiation for the magnetospectroscopy of semiconductor structures with quasi-Dirac dispersion is demonstrated.
