The fabrication and luminescent performance of novel phosphors Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ were investigated by a conventional solid-state reaction method. Under near-UV light, the Na2YMg2V3O12 host self-activated and released a broad emission band (400–700 nm, with a peak at 524 nm) ascribable to charge transfer in the (VO4)3− groups. Meanwhile, the Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphors emitted bright yellow light within both the broad emission band of the (VO4)3- groups and the sharp peaks of the Dy3+ ions at 490, 582, and 663 nm at a quenching concentration of 0.03 mol. The emission of the as-prepared Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphors remained stable at high temperatures. The obtained phosphors, commercial Y2O3:Eu3+ red phosphors, and BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ blue phosphors were packed into a white light-emitting diode (WLED) device with a near-UV chip. The designed WLED emitted bright white light with good chromaticity coordinates (0.331, 0.361), satisfactory color rendering index (80.2), and proper correlation to a color temperature (7364 K). These results indicate the potential utility of Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphor as a yellow-emitting phosphor in solid-state illumination.

A bisthienylethene-dipyrimido[2,1-b][1,3]benzothiazole (BTE-2PBT) triad has been designed and synthesized based on our recent discovery of PBTs as atypical propeller-shaped novel AIEgens. The triad not only maintains the photochromic properties of BTE moiety in solution, film, and solid state but also exhibits remarkable AIE properties. Moreover, the fluorescence of BTE-2PBT PMMA film could be modulated with high contrast by alternate UV and visible light irradiation. Photoerasing, rewriting, and non-destructive readout of fluorescent images on BTE-2PBT PMMA film well demonstrate its potential application as optical memory media.

A novel unsymmetrical diarylethene derivative bearing both phenyl and thiophene moieties, in which two chlorine groups were separately substituted at thiophene and the para-positions of the terminal phenyl ring, were synthesized. Its photochemical , fluorescence properties were investigated systematically both in solution and PMMA amorphous film. The results showed that this compound exhibited reversible photochromism, changing from colorless to purple after irradiation with 313 UV light both in solution and in PMMA amorphous film. Also, it exhibited remarkable fluorescence switching in the solid state.

A newunsymmetrical photochromic diarylethene 1-(2-cyanophenyl)-2-[2-methy-5-(3-fluorophenyl)-3-thienyl]perfluorocyclopentene (1a) has been synthesized. Its photochromic properties in solution and PMMA film were investigated. Diarylethene 1a changed the color from colorless to purple upon irradiation with 297 nm UV light, in which absorption maxima were observed at 540 nm in hexane and at 545 nm in PMMA film, respectively. This new photochromic system also exhibited remarkable fluorescence switching in the solid state. The results demonstrated that it can be potentially used as polarization holographic optical recording medium.

2,4,4,6-Tetraphenyl-4H-thiopyran, C29H22S, orthorhombic, Pna21, a = 17.980(4), b = 6.956(2), c = 34.562(11) Å, V = 4323(2) Å3, Z = 8, Dx = 1.237 g cm-3, F(000) = 1696, λ(CuKα) = 1.54184 A, μ = 1.372 mm-2, T = 294 K. The final R was 0.050 for the unique set of 3103 observed reflections. The central 4H-thiopyran ring forms a boat conformation for both symmetrically independent molecules with average boat angles 4.4(3) and 6.8(3)° at S and C(sp3), respectively. The mean planes of phenyls at the position 2 and 6 are turned from the double plane of 4H-thiopyran by 42.5(5) and 35.8(3)°, respectively. The investigated material undergoes a photochromic change in the solid state after irradiation with UV light or X-rays. The maximum of the new absorption band is situated at 564 nm. The non-exponential time dependence of photochromic bleaching is analysed in terms of a dispersive first-order reaction.

Degradation of organic dyes and their byproducts by heterogeneous photocatalysts is an essential process, as these dyes can be potentially discharged in wastewater and threaten aquatic and xerophyte life. Therefore, their complete mineralization into nontoxic components (water and salt) is necessary through the process of heterogeneous photocatalysis. In this study, Zr/CrO2 (Zirconium-doped chromium IV oxide) nanocomposite-based photocatalysts with different compositions (1, 3, 5, 7 & 9 wt.%) were prepared by an environmentally friendly, solid-state reaction at room temperature. The as-prepared samples were calcined under air at 450 °C in a furnace for a specific period of time. The synthesis of Zr/CrO2 photocatalysts was confirmed by various techniques, including XRD, SEM, EDX, FT-IR, UV-Vis, and BET. The photocatalytic properties of all samples were tested towards the degradation of methylene blue and methyl orange organic dyes under UV light. The results revealed a concentration-dependent photocatalytic activity of photocatalysts, which increased the amount of dopant (up to 5 wt.%). However, the degradation efficiency of the catalysts decreased upon further increasing the amount of dopant due to the recombination of holes and photoexcited electrons.

We successfully synthesized ZnGa2O4 microflowers self-assembled by hexagonal single-crystalline nanopetals. The ZnGa2O4 crystal exhibits improved solar-blind detection performance such as short response time, large light to dark current ratio and high photocurrent stability under zero bias voltage.
