Rural housing is the main content of rural construction. Accelerating rural development and building “Beautiful Countryside” is a major task of the country. In this paper, taking a village in a cold area as an example, the existing problems of overall planning, architectural design, building energy saving, energy utilization are analyzed, which provides the basis and reference for solving the common problems in this area.

According to the survey and measurement on rural housing in the Northeast severe cold regions of China, this paper analyzed the existing situation and problems of current rural housing in terms of integral development, functional layout, envelop structure, interior thermal environment, heating system and energy utilization etc.. Based on the climatic features of severe cold regions, as well as rural financial and technical conditions, living and production mode, residential construction characteristics and existing resource status etc., the feasible approaches of achieving building energy saving has been proposed, thus acting as a guidance for new rural housing design in severe cold regions.

The constraints of resources and environment in China are more and more intense. The 12th Five-Year Plan requires that energy saving must be considered in the architectural design. Liangshan has special climate and sunshine. Therefore, the Government of Liangshan requires that building energy saving must be started from the stage of architectural design. Building energy efficiency must be considered from several aspects, such as architectural layout, wall structure, windows and doors, roof structure, external sun-shading, and construction materials.

Since the oil crisis in the early 70,s of the 20th century, the problem of energy shortage had drawn worldwide attention.Energy saving is now regarded as the 5th“energy resources, besides coal, petroleum, natural gas,and nuelear power. And energy saving of buildings especially cutting down the daily operating energy consuming is given the greatest importance by many countries. Analys is the status of building energy saving in Anhui Provice, and analys is key problems of building energy saving in Anhui Provice, which aims to find out a suitable way for Anhui’s energy saving of buildings.

This research aims to study the design and thermal insulation performance of detached houses in Taiwan through the analysis of 55 detached houses. The research shows that 85% of detached houses are built using reinforced concrete (RC) construction, and the rest mostly using lightweight steel framing (LSF) construction. The thermal insulation performance of envelope construction of RC housing is poorer than LSF housing. More than 80% of the case study sample could not meet the roof thermal insulation requirements of Taiwans latest regulations on housing building energy saving. The most commonly used thermal insulation materials are polystyrene board, glass wool and rock wool, which are nearly all applied in LSF housings for the internal thermal insulation layer or the structural body layer of envelope construction. Polystyrene board has the widest range of use, including both internal and external thermal insulation layers of the envelope construction. If improving thermal insulation performance of the common envelope construction concluded from case study samples to meet Taiwans latest regulations on housing building energy saving, of the savings on air-conditioning energy during the summer could potentially be 11.5%. However, above improvement project is not economically beneficial due to the too long payback period.

External wall exterior insulation technology is one of the most common energy-saving measures in the existing residential building energy saving reform, after confirming the energy-saving standards, how to choose the optimum insulation thickness to make it the lowest cost of renovation in the life cycle is of great significance. Taking a dormitory building in Shihezi area as an object, we developed the mathematic model based on life cycle analysis for calculating the optimum insulation thickness. Finally we simulated the building with DeST-h and analyzed the economic.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of double skin in Thomas Herzog’s works. Double skin is an important method of green building design, and it is also one of the building energy-saving techniques that Thomas Herzog often uses. This paper discusses some of the common features of Herzog’s application of double skin by summarizing some of Herzog’s works and comparing them with the actual construction of Chinese ecological buildings.
