The article presents the features of cascade phyto-treatment facilities, bio plateau with an open water mirror. Such structures are similar to natural wetland objects. The plant species on the cascades and their effect in the post-treatment of wastewater are considered. Natural biological treatment of wastewater with algae roots is one of the most effective methods of treatment. This method allows you to clean polluted wastewater without harming the environment. Aquatic plants intensify the purification process, remove biogenic elements, actively using them in their nutrition, remove heavy metals and organic substances from the water and accumulate in the root system, which are difficult to decompose and thus improve the process of self-purification of reservoirs. The article pays great attention to the project «The Resilient Ribbon: A Timeless Legend of Kazan». The essence of the project is the natural self-purification of the city lake Nizhny Kaban in Kazan, where the root system of plants is used to purify water from mixtures, phenols and phosphates, heavy metals and a number of other harmful substances. The results of laboratory studies of water quality after treatment at cascade phyto-treatment facilities are presented.

The article describes the purpose of the work, which is determining the distribution and relationships between the composition of pollutants in coastal soil, bottom sediments and higher aquatic vegetation in the small river Khodtsa. There have been presented the data of the laboratory research based on the results of the field work onselecting samples, on concentration of toxicants (cadmium, lead, iron, nitrogen, ammonium and petroleum products) in deposit media, as well as in Carex aquatilis plants of the small river Hodza. This plant species is limiting throughout the river due to the low intensity of biological absorption. The studies were carried out during the summer low water season in 2019 on the river section from the source (Elektrostal city) to the river mouth in the area of Pavlovsky Posad. In all the studied objects there have been found increased concentrations of iron. In the coastal ground and bottom sediments the pollution with heavy metals is manifested to a much greater extent: at the source and intermediate point. Petroleum products and ammonia nitrogen are distributed unevenly in space. A correlation analysis of the experimental data obtained in the components of the environment of the studied territory (the Khodtsa river) was performed. In general, the highest measurement results are observed in the upper reaches of the small river Khodtsa in the industrial city of Elektrostal. The obtained data on the heavy metals migration in the system “сoastal ground – bottom sediments – higher aquatic vegetation” of the small river Khodtsa can be successfully used as indicators an environmental monitoring system and serve as the basis for organizing further research, as well as for developing a strategy for environmental management and environmental protection in the Moscow Region.

Quantitative, physicochemical, toxicological and microbiological characteristics of sewage sludge accumulated on sewage sludge cards of Municipal Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal in Kazan are determined. The use of sewage sludge for land restoration and as organic fertilizers is limited by the high content of bacteria of the group of Escherichia coli and heavy metals. Considering the significant volumes of sewage sludge, a method for their restoration directly in sewage sludge cards using quicklime and zeolite is proposed. Experiments have shown that the introduction of calcium oxide and activated zeolite in the amount of 2.5–5.0 % and 20–30 % by weight of the raw sludge, respectively, stops the fermentation processes, provides disinfection, dehydration and structuring of sewage sludge, promotes the immobilization of heavy metals. The intensity of ammonia release into the atmosphere was determined for different technological parameters of sewage sludge treatment.

The impact of the urban effluents of Mytilene (Lesvos island, Greece) on the receiving coastal marine environment, was evaluated by studying the quality of the city effluents (BOD5, COD, SS, heavy metals) and the marine sediments (grain size, organic matter, heavy metals). It was found that the urban effluents of Mytilene contain high organic matter and suspended particle load because of septage discharge into the sewerage network. Furthermore, although the city does not host important industrial activity, its effluents contain appreciable metal load, which is mainly associated with the particulate phase. The city effluents are discharged into the coastal marine environment and their colloidal and particulate matter after flocculation settles to the bottom, where is incorporated into the sediments. Over the years, the accumulation of organic matter and metals into the harbour mud has created a non-point pollution source in the relatively non-polluted coastal marine environment of the island. Copper and Zn were the metals which presented the higher enrichment in the sediments of the inner harbour of Mytilene.

Heavy metals in road dust pose a significant threat to human health. This study investigated the concentrations, patterns, and sources of eight hazardous heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Pb, and Hg) in the street dust of Zhengzhou city of PR China. Fifty-eight samples of road dust were analyzed based on three methods of risk assessment, i.e., Geo-Accumulation Index (Igeo), Potential Ecological Risk Assessment (RI), and Nemerow Synthetic Pollution Index (PIN). The results exhibited higher concentrations of Hg and Cd 14 and 7 times higher than their background values, respectively. Igeo showed the risks of contamination in a range of unpolluted (Cr, Ni) to strongly polluted (Hg and Cd) categories. RI came up with the contamination ranges from low (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, and Pb) to extreme (Cd and Hg) risk of contamination. The risk of contamination based on PIN was from safe (Cu, As, and Pb) to seriously high (Cd and Hg). The results yielded by PIN indicated the extreme risk of Cd and Hg in the city. Positive Matrix Factorization was used to identify the sources of contamination. Factor 1 (vehicular exhaust), Factor 2 (coal combustion), Factor 3 (metal industry), and Factor 4 (anthropogenic activities), respectively, contributed 14.63%, 35.34%, 36.14%, and 13.87% of total heavy metal pollution. Metal’s presence in the dust is a direct health risk for humans and warrants immediate and effective pollution control and prevention measures in the city.

National Nature Park “Pyryatynsky” is a valuable reserve of flora and vegetation of the Left-Bank Dnipro. The extensive hydrological network of the Udai River and the wide representation within this nature reserve of floodplain reservoirs are the reason for the high diversity of plant communities of higher aquatic vegetation. In this article we classified the communities of order Callitricho-Batrachietalia in National nature park "Pyryatynskyi" and identify the features of their syntaxonomic and ecological differentiation. Fragmentary and non-comlete information about this type of vegetation are existed in literature, however, without geobotanical releves and detailed characteristics of the structure of phytoceonoses, synecology and synchorology. All obtained results based on original field data. In total, 22 geobotanical releves were performed during the period 2010–2017. The description of communities was carried out within their natural boundaries. Treatment of fitosociological data was performed with the JUICE software package. The nomenclature of syntaxons was consistent with the International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature (ICFN).The order of Callitricho-Batrachietalia on the territory of NPP "Pyriatynsky" is represented by alliance Batrachion aquatilis Gehu 1961 and 4 associations (Batrachietum aquatilis Gehu 1961, Potameto perfoliati–Batrachietum circinati Sauer 1937, Hottonietum palustris Sauer 1947, Veronico beccabungae–Callitrichetum stagnalis (Oberdorfer 1957) Th. Müller 1962). This is first prodrome of order Callitricho-Batrachietalia for territory of National Nature Park “Pyryatynskyi”. The communities of this syntaxon occupy small areas and have a limited distribution in the region. Most of them are rare and vulnerable to changes in environmental conditions. Monitoring of their structure, chorology and dynamics is an important task to maintain and preserve the species and coenotic diversity of NPP "Pyryatynsky".
