The concept of Industry 4.0 has been developed a lot from a theoretical point of view. However, the real applications on production lines remain few in number, due to the difficulties of interoperability between the different production entities and also due to the lack of a control system adapted to the expected flexibility and to the management of the data generated. This article focuses on the development and deployment of a manufacturing execution system (MES) on a production system 4.0. The development stages of the system are explained in detail. The new functionalities and the expected level of performance impose a new logic in the design of advanced systems for controlling and optimizing production. Finally, a proof of concept of an MES was developed and tested on a new technology platform 4.0.

The current manufacturing transformation is represented by using different terms like; Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs), and the Model-Based enterprise. This transformation involves integrated and collaborative manufacturing systems. These manufacturing systems should meet the demands changing in real-time in the smart factory environment. Here, this manufacturing transformation is represented by the term ‘Smart Manufacturing’. Smart manufacturing can optimize the manufacturing process using different technologies like IoT, Analytics, Manufacturing Intelligence, Cloud, Supplier Platforms, and Manufacturing Execution System (MES). In the cell-based manufacturing environment of the smart industry, the best way to transfer the goods between cells is through automation (mobile robots). That is why automation is the core of the smart industry i.e. industry 4.0. In a smart industrial environment, mobile-robots can safely operate with repeatability; also can take decisions based on detailed production sequences defined by Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This work focuses on the development of a middleware application using LabVIEW for mobile-robots, in a cell-based manufacturing environment. This application works as middleware to connect mobile robots with the MES system.

Industry 4.0 is the digital transformation of the organization to meet the organizational goals and objectives. Industry 4.0 is making slow inroads in the Indian Engineering Industry. Therefore, there is a need for a study to understand the dynamics of the implementation in Indian Engineering Industry from a theoretical point of view. This study uses the Institutional Theory and ResourceBased theory to analyse the implementation of Industry 4.0. "Coercive", "normative" and "mimetic" pressure is used to analyse the forces on firms to implement Industry 4.0. Resource-based view is further used to analyse how the "physical, human, organizational, technological, financial and reputational capital" can be used in Indian Engineering Industry to attain competitive advantage. The study also develops a model to understand the dynamics of Industry 4.0 implementation. This is the first study to analyse the dynamics of Industry 4.0 implementation in Indian Engineering Industry. It will help the academicians to enrich the theoretical base of Industry 4.0 implementation. The industry will benefit from this analysis to understand the decision-making process for the implementation of Industry 4.0. The study can be used by the Government to decide policies that formal, informal rules and policies will help the Industries to implement Industry 4.0.

Manufacturing execution system is information systems (IS) that bridges the gap between IS at the top level, namely enterprise resource planning (ERP) nd IS at the lower levels, namely the automation systems. MES has been reported to increase productivity, maintain product quality, and reduce production time. However, the advantage is obtained if MES is integrated smoothly with the other systems. Currently there is an industry standard, ISA-95, which can be used as a reference model in the process of integrating MES with ERP and automation systems. This study was undertaken to propose a methodology for MES design utilizing ISA-95 standard.The methodology is designed considering the objectives of MES development from a point of view manufacturing system and also from the point of view of information systems. Thus, challenges from two domains, namely business (manufacturing) domain and technology (IS domain) are both considered in the development of the methodology.

Continuing the evolution towards Industry 4.0, the industrial communication protocols represent a significant topic of interest, as real-time data exchange between multiple devices constitute the pillar of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) scenarios. Although the legacy protocols are still persistent in the industry, the transition was initiated by the key Industry 4.0 facilitating protocol, the Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture (OPC UA). OPC UA has to reach the envisioned applicability, and it therefore has to consider coexistence with other emerging real-time oriented protocols in the production lines. The Data Distribution Service (DDS) will certainly be present in future architectures in some areas as robots, co-bots, and compact units. The current paper proposes a solution to evaluate the real-time coexistence of OPC UA and DDS protocols, functioning in parallel and in a gateway context. The purpose is to confirm the compatibility and feasibility between the two protocols alongside a general definition of criteria and expectations from an architectural point of view, pointing out advantages and disadvantages in a neutral manner, shaping a comprehensive view of the possibilities. The researched architecture is meant to comply with both performance comparison scenarios and interaction scenarios over a gateway application. Considering the industrial tendencies, the developed solution is applied using non-ideal infrastructures to provide a more feasible and faster applicability in the production lines.

The article provides theoretical analysis and evaluation of the timber auctions reforms in Russia. The author shows that the mechanism of the "combined auctions", which functioned until recently, is more appropriate from the theoretical point of view (and from the point of view of the Russian practice) as compared to the officially approved format of the English auction.

In this paper we introduce a novel block cipher based on the composition of abstract finite automata and Latin cubes. For information encryption and decryption the apparatus uses the same secret keys, which consist of key-automata based on composition of abstract finite automata such that the transition matrices of the component automata form Latin cubes. The aim of the paper is to show the essence of our algorithms not only for specialists working in compositions of abstract automata but also for all researchers interested in cryptosystems. Therefore, automata theoretical background of our results is not emphasized. The introduced cryptosystem is important also from a theoretical point of view, because it is the first fully functioning block cipher based on automata network.
