INTRODUCTION: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is dened as a disease characterized by alterations in either kidney structure or function or both for a minimum of 3 months duration. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a type of kidney disease in which there is gradual loss of kidney 1 function over a period of months or years. Early on there are typically no symptoms. Later, leg swelling, feeling tired, vomiting, loss of appetite, or 1 confusion may develop. Complications may include heart disease, high blood pressure, bone disease, or anemia. AIM AND OBJECTIVES: Study of Prevalence of hypovitaminosis D in patients of chronic kidney diseases. Search for commonest etiology of hypovitaminosis D in CKD. MATERIALAND METHOD: A Cross-sectional study on 100 cases of newly diagnosed Chronic Kidney Disease patients and matched control subjects is undertaken to study the prevalence of Vitamin D deciency in CKD population and correlation between their serum 25-OH-vitamin D level. 100 Patients who are newly diagnosed as CKD are selected after proper initial screening at Midnapore Medical College, Paschim Medinipur. RESULT AND ANALYSIS: Our study showed that in non-dialysis Syndrome the mean VitD (mean± s.d.) of patients was 25.6620 ± 8.5476. In dialysis the mean VitD (mean± s.d.) of patients was 10.9476 ± 2.6508. Difference of mean VitD in Dialysis vs Non-Dialysis was statistically signicant (p<0.0001). In eGFR 1 (<15) the mean VitD (mean± s.d.) of patients was 11.1130 ± 2.9562. In eGFR2 (15-30) the mean VitD (mean± s.d.) of patients was 24.0750 ± 8.2995. In eGFR3 (31-45) the mean VitD (mean± s.d.) of patients was 26.8296 ± 7.3646. In eGFR4 (>45) the mean VitD (mean± s.d.) of patients was 36.3167 ± 4.9898. Difference of mean VitDin eGFR was statistically signicant (p<0.0001). SUMMARYAND CONCLUSION: Vitamin-D deciency more pronounced in advanced stages of CKD. Vitamin-D deciency was most prevalent in female gender, younger age group and connective tissue disorder. Vitamin-D deciency was more marked in hemodialysis patients compared to non-dialysis CKD patients.

Objectives: Aim of the study was investigating the effect of serum vitamin D levels on health-related quality of life in hemodialysis patients. Method: One-hundred and twenty-three maintenance hemodialysis patients were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Patients divided into 2 groups according to serum vitamin D levels. A serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH] D) level of < 20 ng/mL was identified as vitamin D deficiency (n = 78), and a serum level of ≥20 ng/mL was identified as normal (n = 45). Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36 (KDQOL-36) survey was used for quality of life measurement. Scores of the all of 5 subscales of KDQOL-36 were calculated. Multiple linear regression analyses were used to define independent risk factors affecting the survey. Results: Mean age of patients was 62 and 56% of patients were male. Mean 25(OH) D levels were 11.86 and 29.57 ng/mL, respectively, in 2 groups. There was statistically significant difference between age and Kt/V levels between 2 groups (p = 0.008 and p = 0.041). Age and gender were found as significant predictors of vitamin D deficiency (p = 0.026 and p = 0.021). In symptom and problem list subscale, gender and comorbidity were detected as independent risk factors (p = 0.050 and p = 0.032). Comorbidity was the only independent risk factor for effect of kidney disease subscale (p < 0.001). Independent risk factors associated with burden of kidney disease subscale were comorbidity and serum 25 (OH) D levels (p = 0.003 and p = 0.023). Serum 25(OH) D, gender, and comorbidity were independently associated with physical component summary (PCS) subscale (p < 0.001, p = 0.008, and p = 0.011). The only independently associated factor with mental component summary (MCS) was serum 25(OH) D (p < 0.001). Conclusion: We first showed the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and KDQOL-36 in hemodialysis patients. Lower serum vitamin D levels were negatively associated with burden of kidney disease, PCS, and MCS subscales.

Background: The success of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication depends on several host and treatment factors. Serum vitamin D levels may be associated with H. pylori infection and eradication rates. We investigated the association between vitamin D and H. pylori infection and eradication, using a large electronic database based on medical records from a population-based health maintenance organization. Methods: Data regarding adults who underwent H. pylori testing and had vitamin D measurements within one month of H. pylori testing were collected. H. pylori infection was ascertained using urea breath or stool antigen tests. A negative H. pylori test following a positive result implied eradication. Multivariate regression models were constructed to assess associations between H. pylori infection, eradication, and vitamin D. Results: Among 150,483 members who underwent H. pylori testing from 2009 to 2018, 27,077 (18%) had vitamin D measurements. Vitamin D levels were inversely associated with H. pylori infection, p < 0.001. The odds of a positive H. pylori test were 31% higher among patients with vitamin D levels <20 ng/mL, compared with those with levels ≥20 ng/mL (OR 1.31, 99% CI 1.22–1.4, p < 0.001). Purchase of vitamin D supplements was associated with a negative subsequent H. pylori test (p < 0.001). Mean vitamin D levels were moderately higher in those with successful vs. failed H. pylori eradication (19.34 ± 9.55 vs. 18.64 ± 9.61, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Vitamin D levels are associated with H. pylori infection. Increased vitamin D levels are associated with successful H. pylori eradication. Vitamin D may have a role in H. pylori eradication.
