Eight new fluorescent conjugated polymers were synthesized by the Suzuki polycondensation reaction of 9,9-dioctylfluorene-2,7-diboronic acid bis(1,3-propanediol) ester and a conjugated dihalogenated monomer. The photophysical properties of these polymers were investigated as well-dissolved solutions in chloroform and as nanoparticle suspensions in water. Several of the polymers had large Stokes shifts (greater than 100 nm) and others demonstrated unique changes in the fluorescence properties in aggregated verse nonaggregated forms. Preliminary applications of these polymers in the detection of common bisphenols are also reported.

A new monomer of N-benzoyl dithieno[2,3-b:2’,3’-d]pyrrole (BDP), has been successfully prepared via copper-catalyzed amidation. Then, this monomer was brominated to form 2,6-dibromo-n-benzoyl dithieno[2,3-b:2’,3’-d]pyrrole (DiBDP) monomer. The structures of monomers were confirmed via the nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). BDP and DiBDP monomers will be used as monomers for Suzuki polycondensation reaction to synthesize the donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated polymers.

Understanding catalytic reactions is inherently difficult because not only is the catalyst the least abundant component in the mixture, but it also takes many different forms as the reaction proceeds....

For many years, the research on conjugated polymers (CPs) has been mainly focused on their application in organic electronics. Recent works, however, show that due to the unique optical and photophysical properties of CPs, such as high absorption in UV–Vis or even near-infrared (NIR) region and efficient intra-/intermolecular energy transfer, which can be relatively easily optimized, CPs can be considered as an effective light-activated source of versatile and highly reactive singlet oxygen for medical or catalytic use. The aim of this short review is to present the novel possibilities that lie dormant in those exceptional polymers with the extended system of π-conjugated bonds.

A convenient route was successfully developed for the synthesis of novel heterocycles such as pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyridines (PPP) from pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines in good yield. The PPP derivatives synthesized were further studied for their photophysical properties, and it was observed that absorption and emission λmax changed, owing to the substituent effect at 4 positions. These compounds were obtained from highly reactive starting materials, 5-aminopyrazoles and α-acetyl γ-butyrolactone.Key words: α-acetyl γ-butyrolactone, pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyrrolo[2,3-d] pyridine, absorption, emission, fluorescence.

The improvement in fluorescence properties of 2′-deoxyuridine was made possible by the introduction of (hetero)aromatic moieties at the C–5 position of uridine with alkenyl/phenyl/styryl linkers to create a library of useful fluorescent nucleosides.

A series of novel blue-light-emitting 2H-imidazo[5,1-a]isoquinolinium chloride derivatives were synthesized by the reaction of isoquinoline with trifluoroacetimidoyl chlorides and isocyanides in dry CH2Cl2 in excellent yields. Fluorescence studies showed that the compounds absorb UV radiation and then emit blue light at about 481 nm with moderate to good fluorescence quantum yields. These compounds also showed high Stokes shifts, and can be used to develop ultrasensitive fluorescent molecular probes to study a variety of biological events and processes.
