Three new species of Cuvularia, C. bothriochloae sp. nov., C. micrairae sp. nov. and C. queenslandica sp. nov., isolated from grass hosts in Queensland are described, illustrated and compared with closely related species.

Three new species of the genus Tylenchorhynchus Cobb, 1913 from Canada are named and described. Tylenchorhynchus irregularis n. sp. differs from all closely related species in the irregular width of the cuticular annulation, especially in the posterior half of the body. T. longus n. sp. is similar to T. superbus Allen, 1955 but differs from this species in relative tail length and annulation of the tail terminus. T. laminatus n. sp. resembles T. leptus Allen, 1955 but differs in the details of the lip region, spear length, and laminated annules.

AbstractTwo new genera and three new species of feather mites (Astigmata, Pterolichoidea, Analgoidea) are described from two closely related species of cockatoos, Cacatua galerita (type host) and C. sulphurea (Psittaciformes, Cacatuidae): Astrolabelichus caudatus gen. nov., sp. nov. (Pterolichidae), Psittophagus lacunosus sp. nov. (Pterolichidae), and Cacatualges microdiscus gen. nov., sp. nov. (Xolalgidae). The presence of the same set of mite species on these two species of parrots points to a very close affinity of Cacatua sulphurea and C. galerita and gives additional support for the recent hypothesis of the conspecificity of these birds.

Three new species of Ugandan Kibale forest are described, figured and compared with closely related species: Scymnus (Pullus) auritoides sp. n., S. (Pullus) fumosipennis sp. n. and S. (Pullus) siphonofissus sp. n. S. (Pullus) nigropectus Mader is redescribed, based on new material. New synonyms: S. mundus Mader is a younger synonym of S. nigrosellatus Mader and S. couturieri Chazeau is a synonym of S. majeri Fürsch.

Three new species of oribatid mites of the superfamily Galumnoidea, Pilizetes anufrievi sp. nov., Taeniogalumna behanae sp. nov., Galumnella baleensis sp. nov., are described from Bale Mountains National Park (African region, Ethiopia). Keys to closely related species of these genera are presented.

AbstractThree shrubby, succulent, spiny Euphorbia (Euphorbiaceae) species from western Saudi Arabia are described and illustrated as new: Euphorbia madinahensis Fayed & D.Al-Zahrani, Euphorbia saudiarabica Fayed & D.Al-Zahrani and Euphorbia taifensis Fayed & D.Al-Zahrani. Diagnostic characters, descriptions and taxonomic comments on each are given, and they are compared with closely related species. The geographical distribution of the three new species is shown.

Extensive botanical explorations focused on the taxonomy and phylogeny of the genus Manihot in the Cerrado biome permitted the finding of three new species restricted to Serra do Tombador in the municipality of Cavalcante, Goiás state, of Brazil. Manihot ebracteata, Manihot purpurea and Manihot tombadorensis, are described and illustrated. Morphological characteristics of the new taxa, relationships with closely related species, as well as comments on ecological aspects and natural distribution for each species, are provided.

AbstractIn this paper we describe new dung beetle taxa (Coleoptera: Scarabaeinae) and discuss others previously described from arid south-western Africa. Descriptions are provided for a new monotypic genus (Versicorpus Deschodt, Davis and Scholtz gen.n.) and three new species, Versicorpus erongoensis Deschodt, Davis and Scholtz sp.n., Namakwanus endroedyi Deschodt, Davis and Scholtz, sp.n., and Scarabaeus (Kheper) kalaharicus Davis, Deschodt and Scholtz, sp.n. The type material of Scarabaeus (Scarabaeus) hottentorum Péringuey is examined and spelling errors on the labels are discussed. Inconsistencies between the published type locality, type locality labels, and the known geographical range are also discussed. The recently described Kheper namibicus Krajcik 2006 is synonymised with Scarabaeus (Kheper) cupreus (Castelnau 1840). Distribution records are provided for the new species described here while some closely related species are discussed.

Pimpinella ibradiensis, an unusual new species found in the Toka Yayla (İbradı, Antalya) in southern Anatolia, is described and illustrated. Site conditions, synecology and conservation status of P. ibradiensis are considered. In light of the comparison with the other closely related four species, namely P. nephrophylla, P. flabellifolia, P. sintenisii and P. paucidentata, its similarity within the genus are discussed. P. ibradiensis is easly distinguished from its relatives by its white petals, presence of bracts and bracteoles, larger fruits (4–5.5 × 1–2 mm), and having serrulate basal leaves with 60–95 strongly cartilaginous teeth along margins. The geographical distribution of P. ibradiensis and closely related species are mapped and the identification key of those species is updated.

AbstractThe Aschistodesmini from the Solomon Island are reviewed. Besides clarifying notes on the status of the type and closely related species of Aschistodesmus, descriptive notes and illustrations of the gonopods of the Solomon species of this genus, particularly of those published by Chamberlin, 1920, under the generic name of Solomonosoma, are given. Two new species, A. spatulifer and A. tridentifer are described, and a key to the species is provided. From Rennell Island Dorcadogonus modestus gen. n., sp. n. is described.

The cycad genus Dioon comprises 17 species from Mexico and Honduras, all of them delimited based on their morphological variation and geographic distribution. A recent evaluation of the biological variation among Dioon populations from Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico, demonstrated that the concept of the species Dioon merolae actually consists of three lineages that should be recognized as different taxa. One lineage was already described as Dioon oaxacensis, leaving the concept of Dioon merolae comprising two lineages distributed on both sides of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. However, there are conspicuous morphological differences between these two lineages. Here, we tested whether such a differentiation within the concept of Dioon merolae merits the differentiation of two different taxa. We evaluated the qualitative and morphometric variation among populations belonging to the Dioon merolae lineages, and compared it with the closely related species Dioon oaxacensis. Morphological observations and statistical tests demonstrated that the populations of southeastern Oaxaca, traditionally considered as part of Dioon merolae, represent a distinct species that we described as Dioon salas-moralesae. Identifying the diagnostic characters of this new species helps enable an understanding of the criteria that should be considered to delineate the boundaries between other cycad species.
