Abstract Functional optical elements based on nano/micro-periodic structures have attracted much attention. Since the fabrication of these dual-periodic structures requires precise control of periodicity, the semiconductor process such as an electron beam lithography has been mainly employed. However, these techniques have problems with expensive and low throughput for industrial applications. Therefore, there remains a need for low cost and high throughput fabrication methods of dual-periodic structures. Then we developed a multi-exposure interference lithography (MEIL) system using rotational Lloyd’s mirror interferometer to overcome these problems. The advantages of interference lithography are a large processing area and low cost. Our developed rotational Lloyd’s mirror setup enables us to a highly precise superposition of multiple interference fringes by multi-exposure. Furthermore, we developed a measurement setup for reflective diffractive elements using a two axial rotating stage and measured the diffraction properties of the fabricated dual-periodic diffraction gratings. In this paper, as a demonstration, we succeeded in the fabrication of high-dispersion diffraction grating with an enhanced diffraction efficiency of the −3rd order light. The fabricated shapes have a periodicity of 1997 nm and 665 nm. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the intensity of the −3rd order light was enhanced by about 10 times compared to the single periodic grating.

Higher plants and several photosynthetic algae contain the plastidic 1-deoxy-ᴅ-xylulose 5- phosphate / 2-C-methyl-ᴅ-erythritol 4-phosphate pathway (DOXP/MEP pathway) for isoprenoid biosynthesis. The first four enzymes and their genes are known of this novel pathway. All of the ca. 10 enzymes of this isoprenoid pathway are potential targets for new classes of herbicides. Since the DOXP/MEP pathway also occurs in several pathogenic bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, all inhibitors and potential herbicides of the DOXP/MEP pathway in plants are also potential drugs against pathogenic bacteria and the malaria parasite. Plants with their easily to handle DOXP/MEP-pathway are thus very suitable test-systems also for new drugs against pathogenic bacteria and the malaria parasite as no particular security measures are required. In fact, the antibiotic herbicide fosmidomycin specifically inhibited not only the DOXP reductoisomerase in plants, but also that in bacteria and in the parasite P. falciparum, and cures malaria-infected mice. This is the first successful application of a herbicide of the novel isoprenoid pathway as a possible drug against malaria.

To enhance the multiple interference suppression performance of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers without extra antenna elements, a space-time-frequency adaptive processor (STFAP) is investigated. Firstly, based on the analysis of the autocorrelation function of the multicomponent signal, we propose a common period estimation and data block technique to segment the received signal data into blocks. Secondly, the signal data in each block are short-time Fourier transformed into time-frequency (TF) domain, and the corresponding TF points with similar frequency characteristics are regrouped to structure space-time-frequency (STF) data matrixes. Finally, a space-time-frequency minimum output power- (STF-MOP) based weight calculation method is introduced to suppress multiple interfering signals according to their sparse characteristics in TF and space domains. Simulation results show that the proposed STFAP can effectively combat more wideband periodic frequency-modulated (WBPFM) interferences even some of them arriving from the same direction as GNSS signals without increasing the number of antenna elements.
