Stratospheric equatorial zonal winds from 1951 onwards up to the present show considerable long-term variations, more so at higher levels, These are rarely monotonic and often show multi-periodic structures, including a sunspot cycle (II year variations), Stratospheric temperatures and geopotential heights also show multi-periodic variations, A periodicity near 20 years is encountered often.

Living systems achieve robust self-assembly across length scales. Meanwhile, nanofabrication strategies such as DNA origami have enabled robust self-assembly of submicron-scale shapes. However, erroneous and missing linkages restrict the number of unique origami that can be practically combined into a single supershape. We introduce crisscross polymerization of DNA-origami slats for strictly seed-dependent growth of custom multi-micron shapes with user-defined nanoscale surface patterning. Using a library of ~2000 strands that can be combinatorially assembled to yield any of ~1e48 distinct DNA origami slats, we realize five-gigadalton structures composed of >1000 uniquely addressable slats, and periodic structures incorporating >10,000 slats. Thus crisscross growth provides a generalizable route for prototyping and scalable production of devices integrating thousands of unique components that each are sophisticated and molecularly precise.

Abstract Phononic crystals (PnCs) are capable to manipulate the flow of elastic energy through their periodic structures and emerge as a promising field in the last two decades. Thanks to the advances in microfabrication technologies and developments of multifunctional materials, the engineering of periodic structures moves forward to the nanometer scale. Hence, the relevant frequencies of elastic waves are pushed toward the gigahertz regime where strong photon-phonon interactions trigger the applications of PnCs towards information and communication technologies. In this review, we present the experimental achievements on hypersonic PnCs involving microfabrication technologies to realize the desired structures and characterization of their band structures for unraveling phonon propagation modulation. Some application-orientated research directions are proposed in terms of advances in fabrication and characterization technologies and the development of electro-optomechanical systems.

Abstract We report the existence of periodic structures in the transitional and chaotic regimes in bi-parameter spaces of a predator-prey system. A model is constructed taking into consideration of two important effects: namely, the prey refuge and fear of predation risk. The fixed points, their existence and stability behaviors are analyzed. The Neimark-Sacker bifurcation in the neighborhood of the interior fixed point is shown selecting refuge strength as a bifurcation parameter. The complex dynamical behaviors are explored in the biparameter space with the help of the largest Lyapunov exponent and isoperiodic diagrams. The period-bubbling transitional patterns, and triple heterogeneous attractors resulting in qualitative unpredictability are identified in the present system. The Wada basin sets for the triple coexisting attractors are found. The study reveals that the oscillations of the populations in certain control parameter regions are highly dependent upon the initial densities of the populations.
