Complex impedance spectra of ferroelectric mixed ceramic system ( Na 0.5 Bi 0.5)1-x Ca x Bi 4 Ti 4 O 15 with x=0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1 was studied as a function of frequency and temperature in the range 1 KHz to 10 MHz and 30°C to 620°C respectively. Equivalent circuits involving resistive and capacitive elements at different temperatures, activation energies of relaxations and conduction were evaluated using impedance plots. A comparative study of impedance and conductivity facilities an insight in understanding the electrical nature of these electroceramics.

The experiments of Helmholtz and Piotrowski on the oscillations of a metal sphere suspended bifilarly, and filled with various liquids, gave finite values to the slipping coefficients. The inside of the sphere was gilded and polished, and the value obtained for the coefficient λ was, in the case of distilled water, 2·3534 mm. From some experiments of Girard on transpiration through copper tubes, Helmholtz deduces the value λ = 0·3984 mm. for water flowing past a copper surface.

Hard turning provides an alternative to grinding in some finishing operations. This paper deals with analysis of part surface finishing when turning hardened steel heat-treated on hardness of 46, 55 and 60 HRC with mixed oxide ceramic inserts. Average surface roughness Ra has been widely used in industry it is known that the single parameter Ra is inadequate to define the functionality of a surface. Two different surfaces with similar values of Ra can behave differently under loading conditions. The surface profile 2D and 3D parameters are assessed. The influence of workpiece hardness on surface roughness parameters and cutting force components is investigated. Results show that finish hard turning with mixed ceramic tool produces surface profile comparable to those produced by grinding.
