Collaboration between social workers and teachers is critical in order to maximize students' achievement in school. These professional groups share attributes including their status in professions where women predominate, whose practice occurs in a bureaucratic setting and whose professionals hold a service orientation. Despite these similarities, differences occur in the socialization of the two professions in relation to: the processes of self-selection to the profession; education and training; and in their orientation to and experiences within the organization of the school. This article articulates these differences and similarities and examines their impact on the processes of collaboration between social workers and teachers. In addition, strategies for bridging the differences are presented and illustrated with examples of successful interdisciplinary collaboration in schools.

Public involvement in transportation investment decision making is central to accomplishing the vision of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991. FHWA and FTA are striving to promote this objective in the face of several problems, some of which stem from the biased education and training of engineers and planners. The predominant emphasis of the majority of planners has been and continues to be on technical issues to the exclusion of communicative action and emancipatory interest, resulting in planners not being able to cope with the demands of participatory democracy. The basic concepts of communicative action that need to be incorporated in the education and training of engineers and planners to equip them to deal effectively with citizen participation are introduced. It is recommended that in the changed context in which transportation engineers and planners will have to operate, it is essential that they gain competency beyond just technical areas and be competent to cope with the social, economic, and political dimensions of planning by gaining an understanding of the rudiments of communicative action. A blend of all three rationalities and interests (technical, communicative, and emancipatory) will have to form part of the day-today vocabulary and knowledge base of future planners in view of the importance of public participation in the transportation planning process. An appropriate graduate course on this topic is outlined.

IntroductionSocial workers are among the largest group of professionals in the mental health workforce and play a key role in the assessment of mental health, addictions and suicide. Most social workers provide services to individuals with mental health concerns, yet there are gaps in research on social work education and training programmes. The objective of this scoping review is to examine literature on social work education and training in mental health, addictions and suicide.Methods and analysisUsing a scoping review framework developed by Arksey and O’Malley, we will search for literature through seven academic databases: PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts, CINAHL Plus, Social Sciences Abstracts, Education Source, ERIC and Social Work Abstracts. Two independent reviewers will screen articles utilising a two-stage process. Titles and abstracts will be reviewed in the first stage and full texts will be reviewed in the second stage. Selected articles that meet inclusion criteria will be charted to extract key themes and they will be analysed using a qualitative thematic analysis approach.Ethics and disseminationThis review will fill a knowledge gap in social work education and training in mental health, addictions and suicide. Ethics approval is not required for this scoping review. Through dissemination in publications and relevant conferences, the results may guide future research and education in social work.

The given article is devoted to author's impressions about The Sixth National Congress from Bioethics, which took place in Kyiv on 27-29 September, 2016. Reveals the theme of the plenary and breakout sessions of Congress, which was devoted to discussion of topical issues related to the development of new biomedical technologies and nanotechnology; legal structures in the field of bioethics; bioethical education and training; environmental bioethics; philosophical generalizations contemporary issues of bioethics. The members of the Congress are identified including generally domestic and foreign specialists: scientists, medicians, biologists, philosophers, lawyers, psychologists, educators, representatives of different religious confessions, practitioners and social workers. Updated transdisciplinary nature of modern bioethics. It is analyzed as different areas of bioethics differentiated education. The author calls for a creative rethinking of the structure and methodology of bioethics. Implementation and development of integrative pedagogical bioethics allow Ukraine to become a leader in the development of bioethics to make a qualitative leap in education reform in general.
