Background and Purpose: Breast cancer is the leading female type of cancer in Cyprus. Therefore, there is a need for a valid and reliable tool to examine beliefs or practices about breast cancer and breast self-examination (BSE). The objective of this study was to translate the widely used Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale into Greek and validate the tool among Cypriot women. Methods: Data analysis included descriptive statistics, reliability estimates, and confirmatory factor analysis with fit indexes for construct validity. Multiple regression, with dependent variables “frequency of practice of BSE in the previous year” and “intended frequency of BSE,” was used to examine predictive validity. Ninety-four women were surveyed. Results: The six-subscale structure (confidence, benefits, susceptibility, barriers, seriousness, motivation) of the Greek version was verified, with a good model fit. Alpha coefficients ranged from .66 to .88, indicating internal consistency reliability of the tool. Regression analysis provided evidence of predictive validity, with barriers and confidence being significant predictors of BSE practice. Conclusions: The Greek version of Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale is a valid and reliable tool for use among Cypriot women that can be used to evaluate their beliefs about breast cancer and BSE and for planning interventions to improve these beliefs.

Abstract Objective: Previous studies have shown that the hope of breast cancer survivors is related to the social relational quality, and personality is related to acceptance of disability. However, research is still limited about the underlying potential psychological mechanisms of various psycho-social factors for this population. This study aims to investigate the impact of breast cancer survivors' hope and type C personality on social relational quality and acceptance of disability, and to evaluate the mediating effect of medical coping styles. Methods: A total of 150 breast cancer survivors during chemotherapy were recruited from Harbin, China completed a self-reported questionnaire containing the personal information questionnaire, Herth hope index (HHI), Type C behavior scale, Medical coping modes questionnaire (MCMQ), Social relationship quality scale (SRQS) and acceptance of disability scale (ADS). Results: Results showed that the proposed model fitted the data very well (c2=8.357, df=7, p=0.302, c2/df=1.194, GFI=0.981, CFI=0.991, TLI=0.982, RMSEA=0.037). Further analyses revealed that, Confrontation mediated the relationship between hope and social relationship quality (indirect effect=0.034, BC 95%CI=0.001~0.106), and acceptance-Resignation mediated the relationship between type C personality and acceptance of disability (indirect effect=-0.379, BC 95%CI=-0.637~-0.145).Conclusions: Confrontation and acceptance-Resignation played critical roles in the relationship between hope, type C personality and social relational quality, the acceptance of disability. Healthcare practitioners should be aware of the coping strategies of breast cancer survivors, and psycho-social interventions and supportive care should focus on these cognitive and emotional processes to improve social relational quality and acceptance of disability for this population.

This phenemonological study explored bio psycho social spiritual aspects of Indonesian women with breast cancer who were having therapy. A qualitative data in a form of field notes was obtained during the course of the support group program. The main objective was to have a deeper and richer understanding on how Indonesian women with breast cancer made sense of an experience that was complex, interpersonal, and dynamic. The premise was that gaining knowledge would be impossible without describing human experience as it was defined by the persons themselves (Polit, 1996). The purpose of the study was to explore the impact of breast cancer and its treatment on their (a) physiological aspects, (b) physiological equilibrium, (c) relationship with others, (d) spiritual values, and quality of daily living. Eighty seven subject who joined the support group for women with breast cancer participated in the study. The result of qualitative analysis which were extracted from the significant statements and comments made by the subject during the course of the breast cancer support group for women with breast cancer participated in the study. The result of qualitative analysis which were extracted from the significant statements and comments made by the subject during the course of the breast cancer support group program identified five theme categories : physiological incapability, physiological disequilibrium, social relationship misbehavior, spiritual values disparity, and life of courage. Each statement was examined and interpreted in relation to themes, theme group, and theme categories. The result of the study concluded that group participation had helped them to have positive feelings about themselves and improved their communication skills with their spouses and other family members.

We have reported the maturation of an intracisternal A-type particle in murine plasma cell tumor cultures and three human tumor cell cultures (rhabdomyosarcoma, lung adenocarcinoma, and osteogenic sarcoma) after IUDR-DMSO activation. In all of these studies the A-type particle seems to develop into a form with an electron dense nucleoid, presumably mature, which is also intracisternal. A similar intracisternal A-type particle has been described in leukemic guinea pigs. Although no biological activity has yet been demonstrated for these particles, on morphologic grounds, and by the manner in which they develop within the cell, they may represent members of the same family of viruses.

Since the report, which described the ultrastructure of a metastatic nodule of human breast cancer after estrogen therapy, additional ultrastructural observations, including some which are correlative with pertinent findings in the literature concerning mycoplasmas, have been recorded concerning the same subject. Specimen preparation was identical to that in.The mitochondria possessed few cristae, and were deteriorated and vacuolated. They often contained particulates and fibrous structures, sometimes arranged in spindle-shaped bundles, Fig. 1. Another apparent aberration was the occurrence, Fig. 2 (arrows) of linear profiles of what seems to be SER, which lie between layers of RER, and are often recognizably continuous with them.It was noted that the structure of the round bodies, interpreted as within autophagic vacuoles in the previous communication, and of vesicular bodies, described morphologically closely resembled those of some mycoplasmas. Specifically, they simulated or reflected the various stages of replication reported for mycoplasmas grown on solid nutrient. Based on this observation, they are referred to here as “mycoplasma-like” structures, in anticipation of confirmatory evidence from investigations now in progress.
