PurposeThe aim of the current study is to empirically assess the effects of organizational flexibility on project portfolio (PP) performance, with the mediating role of innovation and moderating effects of environmental dynamism (ED) and absorptive capability (AC).Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 173 manufacturing firms and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the help of a partial least squares (PLS) approach.FindingsResults show that innovation partially mediates the relationship between organizational flexibility and PP performance. Furthermore, the moderating effect of ED between organizational flexibility and innovation was analyzed. Additionally, AC also observed as a moderator between innovation and PP performance.Originality/valueBased on the resource-based view, this study contributes to the literature by addressing the roles of innovation, ED and AC in the relationship between organizational flexibility and PP performance. Implications for managers also discussed in the end; for example, to be more competitive, they should incorporate flexibility into the firm to encourage innovation. It also emphasizes to select new innovative opportunities that correspondingly have effects on the PP performance.

PurposeThis study investigates the impact of environmental uncertainty and organizational ambidexterity on supply chain integration and its relationship between supply chain agility and organizational flexibility in the manufacturing firms.Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected from 526 managers in services and manufacturing industry in Kuala Lumpur. The partial least square (SmartPLS 3.0) tool was applied through the use of the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique.FindingsThe results revealed that a strong relationship exist between environmental uncertainty and supply chain integrations including customer, supplier and internal integration. Organizational ambidexterity has a significant relationship with supply chain integration. Supply chain integrations were shown to have a positive impact on the firm's supply chain agility and organizational flexibility.Originality/valueThe findings may assist to establish a set of key drivers for enhancing supply chain agility and organizational flexibility as a supply chain management initiative in the manufacturing and service industry.

Purpose With the increasingly collaborative nature of innovation and the expanding role of digital platforms on inter-firm collaboration, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the impacts of digital platforms on collaborative innovation capability (CIC) under conditions of two distinctive governance mechanisms. Furthermore, the competitive benefits of CIC at different levels of environmental uncertainty are examined to clarify the performance of collaborative innovation. Design/methodology/approach The research model is proposed based on dynamic capabilities theory, information technology (IT)-enabled organizational capability and governance mechanisms literature, and then validated by using partial least squares with data collected from 200 Chinese firms that engage in digital collaboration with their major channel distributors. Findings Empirical results show that the enabling effect of digital platforms capability on CIC is positively moderated by relational governance while negatively moderated by formal governance, and both governance mechanisms directly and positively influence CIC; the positive relationship between CIC and competitive performance is stronger for higher level of environmental uncertainty; and CIC is the key mediator converting digital platforms capability into competitive performance. Originality/value This study enriches the existing literatures in IT-innovation relationship by not only surfacing the interplay of digital platforms capability with two distinctive governance mechanisms in building CIC, but also clarifying the competitive benefits of CIC in an uncertain environment. Moreover, this study helps explain the controversial issue of the business value of IT capability by discovering the mediating role of CIC.

This research aimed to examine and analyze the effect of Muslim religiosity and innovation capability on firm survival. Also, this research investigated the moderation role of environmental uncertainty on the effect of Muslim religiosity and innovation capability on firm survival. The study was conducted during the covid-19 pandemic. The analysis unit of this research was the owners of processed food small enterprises fostered by the regional government of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. The number of respondents involved in this research was 120 Muslim entrepreneurs. Data were collected using closed questionnaires distributed online, than processed using SEM-WarpPLS. The results showed that the Muslim religiosity and innovation capability significantly affected firm survival. Environmental uncertainty significantly weakened the effect of innovation capability on firm survival. However, environmental uncertainty insignificantly weakened the effect of Muslim religiosity on firm survival. These research results indicate the importance of religious formation for small entrepreneurs in this crisis time. Innovation is also important in increasing the firm survival of small companies during the covid-19 pandemic.

Background: Written batik is one of Indonesia's cultural heritages that must be preserved. During the Covid-19 pandemic, written batik producers in Indonesia experienced increasing challenges due to the uncertainty of the business environment. Innovation is a solution to the problems faced by SMEs during a pandemic to survive. This study aims to examine the effect of entrepreneurship orientation on innovation capability. This study also examines the role of moderating environmental uncertainty in strengthening the effect of entrepreneurship orientation on innovation capability. Methods: The research was conducted at the centre of small and medium-sized batik companies Giriloyo, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Respondents of this study were 130 small and medium companies selected by random sampling. The questionnaire is used as a primary data collection tool. WarpPLS has been used to analyze the effect between variables in this study. Results: Entrepreneurial orientation is an important aspect in improving the innovation capabilities of SMEs. Environmental uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic has strengthened the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on innovation capabilities. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that entrepreneurial orientation has a significant effect on innovation capabilities. Environmental uncertainty significantly strengthens the effect of entrepreneurship orientation on innovation capability.

In this paper, I examine the antecedents of successful IT M&As. Drawing from several theories from strategic management, I propose several hypotheses about the impact of acquiring firm’s environmental uncertainty, pairwise technology complementarity, product market proximity, and the acquiring firm’s CEO narcissism on combined firm’s post-M&A performance measured by profitability and innovation capability. Empirical results partially support my hypotheses: I find that technological complementarity is positively correlated with both post-merger profitability and innovation capability. CEO narcissism, on the hand, only impacts the profitability measure and there is an inversed U-shape relationship. I also find the positive interaction effect between CEO narcissism and technological complementarity on profitability.
