The purpose of this research is to determine whether strategic supplier selection based on supplier capability in new product development, supplier quality, and supplier cost directly or indirectly improves the buyer's competitive performance capabilities in the matched domains of buyer product innovation, buyer quality, and buyer competitive pricing. The resource-based view of the firm is used to frame the direct effects of strategic supplier selection, arguing that a buyer's ability to select a supplier with resources and expertise in a specified domain should improve the buyer's performance capability in the "matched" domain (but not necessarily in "unmatched" domains). Two supplier integration techniques are considered as potential mediators, assuming indirect pathways. The research hypotheses examine both direct and indirect impacts for each of the matched domains, but do not assume cross-domain interactions. For instance, supplier selection for new product development capability should have an effect on buyer product innovation (in matched domains), but not always on buyer quality capability (unmatched domains). While the direct impacts of strategic supplier selection on buyer performance are supported in each matched domain, the indirect effects via supplier integration are not substantial for the matched domains. Strategic supplier selection is identified as a viable source of competitive advantage in the resource-based view. By contrast, supplier development and supplier partnership do not provide additional performance benefits in a particular domain over and beyond those obtained from strategic supplier selection in that domain; rather, it is the type of the resources selected that determines competitive advantage.

Sports performance is a complex process that involves many factors, including ethnic and racial differences. China’s youth soccer is in a process of constant development, although information about the characteristics of its players and their methodological systems is scarce. The aim of this retrospective study was to characterize the physical fitness and the competitive performance of 722 Chinese players of three sports categories (8.0–9.9, 10.0–11.9 and 12.0–13.9 years), who were classified by their coaches as talented (n = 204) or untalented (n = 518). Players were assessed for anthropometry (body height, body mass, body mass index), lung capacity (Forced Vital Capacity), jumping performance (Squat Jump, Countermovement Jump and Abalakov tests), sprinting performance (10 m and 30 m Sprint tests), agility performance (Repeated Side-Step test) and flexibility (Sit & Reach test). A descriptive, comparative, correlational and multivariate analysis was performed. Competitive ranking was created in order to act as dependent variable in multiple linear regression analysis. Results indicate that Chinese players classified as talented have better motor performance than untalented ones. However, these differences are neither related nor determine the competitive performance of one group or the other.

Image captioning generates written descriptions of an image. In recent image captioning research, attention regions seldom cover all objects, and generated captions may lack the details of objects and may remain far from reality. In this paper, we propose a word guided attention (WGA) method for image captioning. First, WGA extracts word information using the embedded word and memory cell by applying transformation and multiplication. Then, WGA applies word information to the attention results and obtains the attended feature vectors via elementwise multiplication. Finally, we apply WGA with the words from different time steps to obtain previous word guided attention (PW) and current word attention (CW) in the decoder. Experiments on the MSCOCO dataset show that our proposed WGA can achieve competitive performance against state-of-the-art methods, with PW results of a 39.1 Bilingual Evaluation Understudy score (BLEU-4) and a 127.6 Consensus-Based Image Description Evaluation score (CIDEr-D); and CW results of a 39.1 BLEU-4 score and a 127.2 CIDER-D score on a Karpathy test split.

Abstract The evaluation of scientific article has always been a very challenging task because of the dynamicchange of citation networks. Over the past decades, plenty of studies have been conducted on thistopic. However, most of the current methods do not consider the link weightings between differentnetworks, which might lead to biased article ranking results. To tackle this issue, we develop aweighted P-Rank algorithm based on a heterogeneous scholarly network for article ranking evaluation.In this study, the corresponding link weightings in heterogeneous scholarly network can be updatedby calculating citation relevance, authors’ contribution, and journals’ impact. To further boost theperformance, we also employ the time information of each article as a personalized PageRank vectorto balance the bias to earlier publications in the dynamic citation network. The experiments areconducted on three public datasets (arXiv, Cora, and MAG). The experimental results demonstratedthat weighted P-Rank algorithm significantly outperforms other ranking algorithms on arXiv andMAG datasets, while it achieves competitive performance on Cora dataset. Under different networkconfiguration conditions, it can be found that the best ranking result can be obtained by jointlyutilizing all kinds of weighted information.

Owing to blockchain characteristics such as transparency, traceability, and disintermediation, blockchain technology has been widely employed in sustainable supply chain management. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of blockchain technology in the supply chain. Although most companies have realized the importance of blockchain technology, they often lack understanding of how to plan, measure, cultivate, and improve their own blockchain operation capabilities. Academic research has insufficiently explored the connotations and internal structure of blockchain operation capabilities and does not provide a clear understanding of how to transform blockchain operation capabilities to produce effective performance. In this context, we proposed a concept of blockchain operation capabilities for first time. We took the perspectives of the resource-based view and sociomaterialism theory, based on IT capabilities, big data analysis capabilities, and existing blockchain supply chain research, and explored the relationship between blockchain operation capabilities and competitive performance. We then constructed a hierarchical model for blockchain operation capabilities. To test our proposed research model, we used an online survey to collect data from 1206 firm managers with blockchain technology supply chain experience. The results showed that blockchain operation capabilities has a positive impact on supply chain integration and competitive performance, while supply chain integration has a strong mediating effect on the blockchain operation capabilities and competitive performance relationship. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess antioxidant markers before and after a mid-season of professional soccer players from the 3rd Spanish Division, and to correlate antioxidant markers with competitive performance. Sixty-five male players (age = 25.3 ± 4.2 yr, body mass = 73.2 ± 6.7 kg, body height = 177.8 ± 5.7 cm) from three soccer clubs from Cádiz (Spain) participated in the study. Body composition, maximal aerobic capacity (VO2max), and baseline antioxidant blood markers (Total Antioxidant Status (TAS) and Reduced glutathione/Oxidized glutathione ratio) were assessed in the first week of the championship season (pre-test) and after 18 weeks in the mid-season (post-test). Soccer performance was registered according to the official classification ranking at both the mid-season and at the end of the season; ranking positions for Team A were 2nd and 1st, for Team B were 5th and 5th, while for Team C were 12th and 14th, respectively. Regression analyses showed that TAS and VO2max were able to independently predict (p < 0.05) performance in our participants. Moreover, antioxidant levels showed significant main effects on performance (p < 0.001); where a higher antioxidant capacity was observed in the best performance soccer team, both before and after the mid-season. Notwithstanding, the competitive period compromised the antioxidant status since TAS levels significantly decreased after the 18-week training program and competition compared with baseline values in all soccer teams (p < 0.001). These results suggest the need of monitoring antioxidants in soccer players to prevent excessive oxidative stress and cellular damage which could compromise success in competition, by adjusting the training loads, diet or ergogenic aids, if needed.
