Structural performance is the most important index to declare the stability, safety and durability of structures in practical engineering. The performance degradation of structures becomes more and more common with the increase of service life. To ensure the safe operation of structures, the hot research has gradually changed from large-scale construction to the detection, repair, reinforcement, renovation and maintenance.

Frost heaving damage of water conservancy project is widespread. In order to research the failure problems of hydraulic soil slope in dark seasonal frozen soil region, laboratory model test is carried out combined with field test section practical situation, which is the prototype of this model test. It is researched that the rule of frost heave parameters variation and the damage of soil slope during freeze-thaw cycling. That offers theoretical basis and reference for construction of water conservancy project, which will mitigate the effect and damage of freeze-thaw on hydraulic soil slope stability.

Lounge bridges in Taishun are a special type of Chinese traditional timber structure. Wenxing Lounge Bridge is a famous bridge of them. The analysis of structural performance and damages for Wenxing Lounge Bridge is the foundation of its repair and reinforcement. The performance degradation of wood material and the action of strong external force and the effect of environmental changing and the factor of unfavorable human-activity have continuously accelerated the damage of the bridge. After visiting local craftsmen, building technics and detailed conformations of the bridge are researched. The FEM analyses on the structure before damaged and after damaged are carried out respectively. Damages reasons of the bridge are then generally analyzed and repair design of the bridge is also presented.

The cable-stayed is one of the principal force members of cable-stayed bridges. It would be prone to exhibit vibration of large amplitude on the action of wind, earthquake and traffic load,so it reduces the life of stayed cable and even cause destruction. In order to reduce the cable damage, it is very necessary to study the mechanism of vibration of cable-stayed. Experiments are conducted to explore the nonlinear vibration of cable under the periodic external force. A cable model with 14.3 meters long is set up and an acceleration sensor is installed on the midpoint of cable. Time-history acceleration data are obtained by using of acceleration sensor under three cycle load. From the data a Poincare Map is provided and chaos motion is confirmed by using of Smale Horseshoe Map theory.

This study is related to the FRP-concrete composite bridge deck for cable-stayed bridges developed by the Korea Institute of Construction Technology since 2007. This deck disposes a FRP panel at the bottom and is orthotropic owing to its fabrication through pultrusion process. In the cable-stayed bridge applying precast deck, support conditions occur at the cross beam and edge girder. Therefore, need is to verify the performances in the longitudinal and transverse directions when applying the orthotropic deck to cable-stayed bridges. Accordingly, specimens enabling to verify the performance in each direction are fabricated and subject to structural performance test. Based on the test results, the serviceability and applicability of the FRP-concrete composite deck to cable-stayed bridges are evaluated.
