A development of the optical model for the description of the hadron-nucleus scattering is proposed. When describing the behavior of polarization observables for the elastic proton scattering on 40Ca nuclei in the energy interval from 200 to 800 MeV, the Born approximation is used. Analytical expressions for the scattering amplitudes, as well as for the differential cross-sections and polarization observables, are obtained. The comparison of the scattering observables calculated in the 1st and 2nd Born approximations is made. It is shown that the observables calculated in this approach are in a reasonable agreement with the available experimental data.

Recently the inverse mean field method (Imefim) has been shown to lead to a specific energy dependence of the real central nuclear part, V, of the optical model potential for nucleon-nucleus scattering. Proceeding from V towards the imaginary volume term of the potential, Wυ, application of conservation laws yields a specific energy dependence for Wυ. It compares favourably with heuristic potentials.

The interaction of 970 MeV protons with helium has been studied with a high-pressure diffusion cloud chamber. From 642 events the total and absorption cross-sections were found to be 116 ± 17 mb and 93 ± 13 mb, respectively. These agree with values obtained by extrapolation of known cross-sections for more complex nuclei, and the results are interpreted in terms of the optical model of the nucleus. The angular distribution for elastic-scattering yields an α -particle radius of 1⋅8 x 10 -13 cm. Quasi-elastic proton-proton and proton-neutron scattering, and more particularly charged meson production, show that the α -particle has some individual particle characteristics. Meson reabsorption appears unimportant.

A series of calculations of differential cross-sections (DCSs) and analyzing powers (Ay) of the elastic proton scattering on isotopes 6 He and 8 He were presented in the framework of the theory of Glauber multiple diffraction scattering. The three-body α–n–n and harmonic oscillator wave functions (WFs) were used for 6 He , for 8 He — the function of density distribution in LSSM. For p6 He scattering, the expansion of the Glauber operator into a series of multiple-scattering is written in the form consistent with the picture of weakly bound clusters in halo-nuclei, while for p8 He scattering the members of single and double collisions are included in the operator. We have done the comparison of our results with available experimental data (including new data of Ay for p6 He scattering at the E = 71 MeV/nucleon) and with the calculations' results in the other approaches (high-energy, optical model, RMF). Also, a comparison of the characteristics of two isotopes 6 He and 8 He was made, which showed that they correlate quite well with each other.
