Penalaran, Pemecahan Masalah, Think Pair Share, Group Investigation

Abstract:

The purpose of this research was to determine differences in students’s reasoning and mathematical problem solving abilities by cooperative learning in Think Pair Share (TPS) and

Group Investigation (GI). The result showed that, (1) there were significant differences in the ability of reasoningg and mathematical problem solving of students who studied by TPS and students who studied by GI; and (2). There is no interaction between learning models (TPS and GI) and the mathematics ability (reasoning and problem solving). So it can be concluded that the TPS and GI gives a different effect on students’ mathematical reasoning and problem solving abilities.

Keywords:

Reasoning, Problem Solving, Think Pair Share, Group Investigation

This study described the stimulation structure of problem-solving skills obtained by students who were taught mathematics using functional skills mathematics approach. A descriptive exploratory qualitative approach was used to examine the students’ stimulation structure. Participants included three students from different level of mathematics ability in the second semester students of mathematics education program at Universitas Serang Raya. The data gained from the students’ problem-solving working collaborated with in-depth interviews focused on the students’ thinking refers to the functional skills mathematics completeness indicator. Exploration results showed the percentage of stimulation for each student of high, moderate and low mathematics ability are 81.8%, 54.5% and 36.7%. The relevance of the implementation of the functional skills mathematics approach was explained in more detail in the discussion. This experimental study was conducted to investigate students’ mathematical communication and problem solving abilities by using problem based learning (PBL). The subjects of this study were 67 student teachers from a State University in Bandung. Instruments of this study were a mathematical communication test and a mathematical problem solving test. The data were analyzed by using one and two path anova, Mann Whitney test and chi square test. The study found that: (1) Students’ mathematical communication and problem solving abilities in PBL classroom were higher than those of students of conventional classroom; (2) The advantage of PBL were also supported by the findings that mathematical communication and problem solving abilities of students with low initial ability were higher in PBL classroom compared to those ofconventional classroom; (3) There was significant correlation between mathematical communication and problem solving abilities; (4) There were no interaction between teaching approaches and prior mathematics ability on students’ mathematical communication and problem solving abilities.

Students are required to find their appropriate strategies to solve mathematics problems so that intuition is needed. Male and female students have different intuition on mathematical problem-solving. Thus, gender is influencing how to obtain mathematical knowledge. This descriptive qualitative study aimed to analize the intuition differences of male and female students who have high-level mathematical abilities at secondary school in solving mathematics problems. Data was collected through tests of mathematical problem-solving and interviews then analysed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study found that: (1) There are differences in the characteristics of male and female intuition in mathematical problems solving, (2) The intuition of male and female in mathematical problems solving based on Polya's steps is different in re-checking the answers, (3) There are differences in intuition when students solve linear equation system problems. There are differences in intuition between male and female students with high matematical abilities in each material. Students with problem-solving abilities have affirmative intuition to understand problems, anticipatory intuition for problem-solving plans and solutions, and conclusive intuition to re-examine problems.

This research is a qualitative descriptive research that aims to describe the ability of problem solving mathematically viewed from the early ability of mathematics and gender differences. The subjects of this study were six students. The six students were selected based on the Mathematics Ability test scores divided into high, medium, and low categories with two men each and one woman representing each level of math skills on SPLDV material by taking the highest grades from each capability category. The six subjects were given the Mathematical Problem Solving Ability Test I and the Mathematics Problem Solving Ability Test II at different times. Data analysis techniques using qualitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Indicators mention things that are known and questioned by all subjects, (2) Indicators to make problem-solving plans from things known for problem solving are shared by all subjects, (3) Indicators carry out problem solving through a plan that has been made owned by all subjects, (4) Indicators of re-examination of existing answers owned by all subjects. Keywords: Qualitative research, mathematical problem solving skills, early math ability, gender differences, two-variable linear equations system
