Commercial window added with BaSO4 have been studies on the mass attenuation coefficient and compared it with some standard shielding concretes. This parameter has been investigated at photon energy from 1 keV to 100 GeV on the basis of calculation. The theoretical values of photon interaction were obtained by the WinXCom program. The variations of mass attenuation coefficient of commercial window and standard shielding concretes are shown graphically with photon energy. It has been observed that the commercial window added with 30% BaSO4 has higher value of mass attenuation coefficient than all of standard shielding concretes at the photon energy range above 40-400 keV. Also, discontinuous jump of mass attenuation coefficient at the lower energy has been discusses.

Water is a recognized tissue equivalent material. Due to some reason, water is not a suitable material to use as the daily routine in Quality Assurance assessment. In this paper, Rhizophora spp was treated with soy flour were applied to fabricate solid water equivalent material. Nine samples of three different particle sizes of Rhizophora spp as well as their treatment level were prepared. An innovative approach, x-ray fluorescence was used to measure the unknown attenuation coefficient while field emission scanning electron microscopy was presented to evaluate the microscopy structure of desired samples. Effective energy range between 15.7 to 26.7 keV was used to measure the mass attenuation coefficient of the fabricated particleboard. All the results were compared with the water value in XCOM database. This study showed that there was no significant difference (p>0.05) between mass attenuation coefficient of sample with the water value from XCOM. In addition, the morphology images were improved for post-treated compared to untreated Rhizophora spp particleboard. Based on these results, Rhizophora spp particleboard is amenable as an alternative window of purported water equivalent material.

The Bi2O3 doped with soda lime borosilicate glasses in composition xBi2O3 : 15Na2O : 10CaO : 20B2O3 : (55-x)SiO2 at different concentrations (x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 mol%) were studied the photon interactions. The total mass attenuation coefficient, coherent, incoherent, photoelectric absorption and pair production of prepared were studies using WinXcom Program at 1keV to 2MeV. The result of total mass attenuation coefficient and photoelectric absorption were decreases but discontinue because of photoelectric absorption edge at low energy. The photoelectric effect shows the main interaction at the low energy and decrease with increasing of photon energy. The higher photon energy the incoherent scattering found to be the main interaction. But at the photon energy 1.022 MeV, the pair production will be occurs and found to be the main interaction at the photon energy higher than 1.022 MeV.

The effective atomic number, electron density and mass attenuation coefficient of some selected active pharmaceutical ingredients such as Diclofenac Sodium, Femotidine, Alprazolam, Amiodar, Amiodarone, Ciprofloxacin, and Nimesulide have been calculated over the energy range from 1 keV to 100 GeV for total and partial photon interactions by using WinXCom. The obtained data shows that the change in mass attenuation coefficient and electron density varies with energy and chemical composition of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API’s) in drugs. The results in the variation of photon interaction with energy and effective atomic number of the API’s in drug are shown in the logarithmic graphs.

Abstract Calcination process is a method used for gamma rays mass attenuation coefficient enhancement of natural bentonite clay nano-particles. This process eliminates water and organic matter from bentonite clay structure which have low mass attenuation coefficient values. There are two opposite effects on mass attenuation coefficient values; oxides content increases after calcination process which enhances mass attenuation coefficient values and particle size of calcinated bentonite increases which decreases mass attenuation coefficient values. In order to enhance mass attenuation coefficient value for natural bentonite, a physical ball milling must introduced after calcination process that decreases particle size. Calcination process is done at 700 ̊C for two hours because dehydration is completed above 500 ˚C while dehydroxylation observed at 700 ˚C. Mass attenuation coefficients are measured for calcinated and ball milled bentonite clay at different energies (662, 1173 and 1332 keV) and different pressing pressures (50, 100 and 150 bar). Narrow beam transmission technique and two different sources (Cs-137 and Co-60) are used for mass attenuation coefficient measurements, also particle size are measured by two different methods dynamic light scattering and Williamson-Hall size analyses using XRD patterns. All samples are coated by polyvinyl alcohol polymer.
