Abstract 6th International Conference of Computational Methods in Engineering Science (CMES’2021), 25-27 November 2021, Zamośd, Poland. The main objective of the CMES conference is the development of engineering sciences, numerical and experimental techniques, broaden experience, and good practices by representatives of the scientific community and industry. The conference allows the exchange of knowledge between different research domestic and foreign centres representing various fields of engineering science and technology. In this paper, we introduce a new flexible generator of continuous distributions called the transmuted Burr X-G (TBX-G) family to extend and increase the flexibility of the Burr X generator. The general statistical properties of the TBX-G family are calculated. One special sub-model, TBX-exponential distribution, is studied in detail. We discuss eight estimation approaches to estimating the TBX-exponential parameters, and numerical simulations are conducted to compare the suggested approaches based on partial and overall ranks. Based on our study, the Anderson–Darling estimators are recommended to estimate the TBX-exponential parameters. Using two skewed real data sets from the engineering sciences, we illustrate the importance and flexibility of the TBX-exponential model compared with other existing competing distributions.

The purpose of this chapter of the book is to present knowledge on the use of laser technology in silicon photovoltaic cell manufacturing processes. Particular consideration was given to the technique of using a disk laser to cut the edges of silicon wafers together with the recognition of the flow of laser micromachining on the quality of cut edges to obtain their minimal deformation. The second topic described is the method of producing point contacts employing laser radiation between a layer of vaporised aluminium and crystalline silicon using the Nd:YAG laser. The results illustrating the impact of the structure and parameters of point contact for a given laser radiation energy on basic electrical parameters for complete, prototype solar cells are included. The chapter in the book provides an overview of the literature on the above topics and presents selected results of experimental works carried out by the authors. The motive for its publication is the need to present selected results of own research carried out in the Welding Department cooperating for many years with the Institute of Engineering and Biomedical Materials (IMIiB) of the Silesian University of Technology and the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMIM) of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow.
