AbstractBiofeedback instrumentation has been a growing part of physical therapy practice for 20 years, and physical therapists have contributed to researching its efficacy in treating varying conditions. The application of biofeedback to the treatment of stroke was marked by some early difficulties with the quality of the electronics, but sophisticated contemporary equipment can do much more than was originally envisioned. The importance of relating quantified movement-based data to functional measures is projected as a high priority if appropriate reimbursement for physical therapy services with biofeedback is to continue in the future.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the expectations of the role-set for the academic chairperson's role and the chairperson's actual role behaviours using role theory and the role episode model suggested by Kahn et al. as the theoretical framework. The research was carried out on the population of heads of occupational therapy and physical therapy programs in Canadian universities. These subjects participated in indepth personal interviews and completed logs of their time spent in professionally-related activities; deans and faculty members, on the other hand, were surveyed for their expectations of the chairperson's role by means of a mailed questionnaire. Data analysis involved content analysis of interview transcripts and primarily non-parametric correlational statistics. The percentages of time which chairpersons spent on the various role responsibilities as well as the expectations of the role-set, both for time expenditure and for the importance of role responsibilties, were determined. While the results indicated a significant positive correlation between the expectations for time expenditure of physical therapy and of male chairpersons and their own role behaviours, no other significant correlations between the expectations of the role-set and the actual role behaviour of chairpersons were evident. Directions for future research as well as strategies to reduce discordance between expectations are suggested.

Abstract At the present time, back pain and posture problems affect a growing number of young people. This is probably due to a changing lifestyle which has led to less physical activity. The aims of our study were to evaluate the prevalence of pain associated with the spine, as well as to ascertain the relationship of these symptoms with the degree of physical activity among a group of students of the Medical University of Lublin. The research group consisted of 301 students (201 women and 100 men) aged between 19 and 27 years. The survey was performed at the turn of the year 2014/2015. Based on an anonymous questionnaires, we found that treatment and advice obtained at the faulty posture and/or orthopedic clinic benefited slightly more than 32% of all respondents. In this group, about 20% were women, while among men, it was a little over 12%. Physical therapy to treat back problems was also entered into by about 29% of the respondents, while 5% of students undertook such treatment very frequently. What is more, 89% of all respondents stated they regularly attend physical education classes. Moreover, more than 81% of all students surveyed practiced some sport, in this group - about 51% of the respondents stating so were women, and a little over 29% were men. Although medical students are a group of people with high health issue awareness, they are not deprived of problems related to the musculoskeletal system.
