Hydrogenation of CO 2 to alcohols is of great importance, especially when producing higher alcohols. In this work, we synthesized heterogeneous PtRu/Fe 2 O 3 , in which the Pt and Ru bimetallic catalysts were supported on Fe 2 O 3 . The catalyst was used to catalyse CO 2 hydrogenation to alcohols. It was demonstrated that the activity and selectivity could be tuned by the bimetallic composition, and the catalyst with a Pt to Ru molar ratio of 1:2 (Pt 1 Ru 2 /Fe 2 O 3 ) had high activity and selectivity at 200°C, which is very low for heterogeneous hydrogenation of CO 2 to produce higher alcohols. The conversion and the selectivity increased with increasing pressures of CO 2 and/or H 2 . The catalyst could be reused at least five times without any obvious change in activity or selectivity.

The catalyst of FeS modified K2CO3/MoS2 (ADM) (Fe/ADM) were prepared and tested for higher alcohols (C2+OH) synthesis (HAS) from synthesis gas(syngas, mixture of H2 and CO). The effects of CO pretreatment on Fe/ADM catalyst and the catalytic performance for HAS were investigated. The ability for C2+OH formation was enhanced and the hydrocarbon selectivity was lowered after CO pretreatment. The XPS spectra revealed that the iron carbide species appeared and the potassium enriched on the surface of CO pretreated Fe/ADM catalyst, which might be responsible for the high activity of higher alcohols and low hydrocarbons synthesis, respectively.

Au1−xPdx bimetallic catalysts with low Pd entities on CeO2 nanorods delivered high activity and chemoselectivity for hydrogenation of halogenated quinolines. Improved chemoselectivity could be attributed to the selective adsorption configurations of halogenated quinolines on Au via tilted orientation rather than on Pd via flat orientation.

CuO on mesoporous silica catalyst was prepared with post synthesis impregnation method, and the effects of Al and Co promoters on CuO/SBA-15/kaolinite catalyst properties and CO2 hydrogenation were studied. The mixing technology with kaolinite clay (containing Al2O3) was used to obtain the granules and to enhance the CO2 conversion to methanol as a product. The performance of all catalysts for catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 was evaluated on a fixed-bed tubular micro-activity reactor at 20 bar and 250°C with H2/CO2 molar ratio 3:1. XRD analysis, N2 adsorption-desorption analysis and SEM-EDX analysis indicated that the mesoporous structure of SBA-15 remains after loading with CuO and promoters, and after mixing with kaolinite clay. Results were compared with results obtained with commercial CuO/Al2O3 catalyst, which showed high MeOH selectivity (78%) during CO2 hydrogenation reaction.

The hydrogenation reaction of muconic acid, produced from biomass using fermentative processes, to bio-adipic acid is one of the most appealing green emerging chemical process. This reaction can be promoted by catalysts based on a metal belonging to the platinum group, and the use of a second metal can preserve and increase their activity. Pd–Au bimetallic nanoparticle samples supported on high-temperature, heat-treated carbon nanofibers were prepared using the sol immobilization method, changing the Pd–Au molar ratio. These catalysts were characterized by TEM, STEM, and XPS analysis and tested in a batch reactor pressurized with hydrogen, where muconic acid dissolved in water was converted to adipic acid. The synthesized Pd–Au bimetallic catalysts showed higher activity than monometallic Au and Pd material and better stability during the recycling tests. Moreover, the selectivity toward the mono-unsaturated changed by decreasing the Pd/Au molar ratio: the higher the amount of gold, the higher the selectivity toward the intermediates.

Catalytic combustion of VOCs was investigated over Mn–Zn mixed oxides supported on cordierite ceramic (Cord) and over the promoted Mn-Zn oxides with γ–Al2O3 coating. The properties and performance were characterized by using the XRD, SEM, BET, and TPD techniques. Mn-Zn oxides catalysts with different kinds of γ–Al2O3 sol coating were found to possess a high activity, and the Mn–Zn/γ–Al2O3/Cord (Mn/Zn=2) was identified as the most active that the temperature of complete combustion of toluene was 250°C. Effects of variation of preparation conditions, including molar ratio of Mn and Zn, loading, calcination temperature and different kinds of γ–Al2O3 dipping were investigated.
