A Gram-staining-positive, filamentous bacterium, which developed large globose sporangia at the ends of long sporangiophores on aerial mycelium, was isolated from dry soil collected in a deciduous forest in Thailand. The cell-wall peptidoglycan of the novel bacterium, which was designated strain A-T 1846T, contained meso-diaminopimelic acid and the whole-cell sugars comprised rhamnose, ribose, mannose, glucose and galactose. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H4). Mycolic acids were not detected. The identified phospholipids were phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, hydroxyphosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0, iso-C16 : 0 2-OH and C16 : 0 10-methyl. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 72 mol%. The phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics of the novel strain resembled those of established members of the genus Kutzneria . Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences also indicated that this strain belonged to the genus Kutzneria but as a representative of a putative novel species. In hybridization experiments, the DNA–DNA relatedness values recorded between the novel strain and established members of the genus Kutzneria all fell well below 70 %. Based on the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic evidence and the results of the DNA–DNA hybridizations, strain A-T 1846T represents a novel species in the genus Kutzneria , for which the name Kutzneria buriramensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is A-T 1846T ( = BCC 29373T  = NBRC 107931T). An emended description of the genus Kutzneria is provided.

A novel actinomycete strain, designated YIM 75904T, was isolated from a soil sample that had been collected from a dry and hot river valley in Dongchuan county, Yunnan province, south-western China. The taxonomic position of the novel strain was investigated by a polyphasic approach. In phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain YIM 75904T formed a distinct clade within the genus Amycolatopsis and appeared to be closely related to Amycolatopsis sacchari K24T (99.3 % sequence similarity). Strain YIM 75904T had a type-IV cell wall, with no detectable mycolic acids, and had MK-9(H4) as its predominant menaquonine. Its cell wall contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, galactose, glucose and arabinose, and its major cellular fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The genomic DNA G+C content of the novel strain was 68.5 mol%. Based on the results of physiological and biochemical tests and DNA–DNA hybridizations, strain YIM 75904T represents a novel species of the genus Amycolatopsis for which the name Amycolatopsis dongchuanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 75904T ( = CCTCC AA 2011016T  = JCM 18054T).

A Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, non-motile, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated CAU 1074T, was isolated from marine sediment and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Strain CAU 1074T grew optimally at 30 °C and pH 6.5. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CAU 1074T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Haloferula and was most closely related to Haloferula harenae KCTC 22198T (96.0 % similarity). Strain CAU 1074T contained MK-9 as the major isoprenoid quinone, and iso-C14 : 0, C16 : 1ω9c and C16 : 0 as the major fatty acids. The cell wall peptidoglycan contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. The major whole-cell sugars were glucose, xylose, mannose and ribose. The polar lipids were composed of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, aminoglycolipid and two unidentified phospholipids. The DNA G+C content of the strain was 64.0 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data, and phylogenetic inference, strain CAU 1074T should be classified as a member of a novel species in the genus Haloferula , for which the name Haloferula chungangensis sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is CAU 1074T ( = KCTC 23578T = CCUG 61920T). An emended description of the genus Haloferula is also provided.

During a bioprospection of bacteria with antimicrobial activity, the actinomycete strain A38T was isolated from a sediment sample of the Carpintero river located in the Gran Piedra Mountains, Santiago de Cuba province (Cuba). This strain was identified as a member of the genus Micromonospora by means of a polyphasic taxonomy study. Strain A38T was an aerobic Gram-positive filamentous bacterium that produced single spores in a well-developed vegetative mycelium. An aerial mycelium was absent. The cell wall contained meso-diaminopimelic acid and the whole-cell sugars were glucose, mannose, ribose and xylose. The major cellular fatty acids were isoC15:0, 10 methyl C17:0, anteiso-C17:0 and iso-C17:0. The predominant menaquinones were MK-10(H4) and MK-10(H6). Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that this strain was closely related to Micromonospora tulbaghiae DSM 45142T (99.5 %), Micromonospora citrea DSM 43903T (99.4 %), Micromonospora marina DSM 45555T (99.4 %), Micromonospora maritima DSM 45782T (99.3 %), Micromonospora sediminicola DSM 45794T (99.3 %), Micromonospora aurantiaca DSM 43813T (99.2 %) and Micromonospora chaiyaphumensis DSM 45246T (99.2 %). The results of OrthoANIu analysis showed the highest similarity to Micromonospora chalcea DSM 43026T (96.4 %). However, the 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequence-based phylogeny and phenotypic characteristics provided support to distinguish strain A38T as a novel species. On the basis of the results presented here, we propose to classify strain A38T (=LMG 30467T=CECT 30034T) as the type strain of the novel species Micromonospora fluminis sp. nov.

A novel actinomycete strain, A-T 4600T, which developed cylindrical sporangia containing a longitudinal pair of motile spores forming singly or in bundles on short ramifications of the aerial mycelium, was isolated from soil collected from an evergreen forest in Thailand. The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. The whole-cell sugars contained ribose, madurose, mannose and glucose. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H2). Mycolic acids were not detected. The diagnostic phospholipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, diphosphatidylglycerol and aminophosphoglycolipid. The predominant cellular fatty acids were unsaturated C17 : 1, C18 : 1, saturated C16 : 0, and C17 : 0. The G+C content of the DNA was 70.8 mol%. Phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses showed that the isolate had the typical characteristics of members of the genus Planobispora . Furthermore, 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis also indicated that this strain belonged to the genus Planobispora but as a putative novel species. DNA–DNA relatedness values that differentiate the isolate from previously described members of the genus Planobispora were significantly below 70 %. Following an evaluation of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic studies, it is proposed that the isolate represents a novel species, Planobispora siamensis sp. nov.; the type strain is A-T 4600T ( = BCC 39469T = NBRC 107568T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, non-flagellated, strictly aerobic strain with gliding motility, designated SW024T, was isolated from surface seawater of the South Pacific Gyre (26° 29′ S 137° 56′ W) during the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 329. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the novel strain was related most closely to Aquimarina muelleri KMM 6020T, Aquimarina macrocephali JAMB N27T, Aquimarina addita JC2680T, Aquimarina mytili PSC33T, Aquimarina intermedia KMM 6258T, Aquimarina latercula ATCC 23177T, Aquimarina spongiae A6T, Aquimarina agarilytica ZC1T and Aquimarina brevivitae SMK-19T (96.1, 95.5, 95.0, 94.4, 94.3, 94.0, 93.4, 93.3 and 93.2 % similarities, respectively), demonstrating that the novel strain belonged to the genus Aquimarina . The DNA G+C content of strain SW024T was 30.8 mol%. The major respiratory quinone of strain SW024T was MK-6. The dominant fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 1 G, C16 : 0 10-methyl and/or iso-C17 : 1ω9c, and iso-C15 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipids of strain SW024T were phosphatidylethanolamine, three unknown aminolipids and five unknown polar lipids. On the basis of combined phenotypic and phylogenetic analyses, strain SW024T represents a novel species of the genus Aquimarina , for which the name Aquimarina longa sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SW024T ( = CGMCC 1.11007T = JCM 17859T). An emended description of A. muelleri is also proposed.

An actinobacterium, designated 14C53T, was isolated from a soil sample on basaltic material from Samsun, Turkey. The growth ranges for NaCl concentration and pH of strain 14C53T were quite limited and the growth temperature range of the strain was 20–37 °C, with an optimum at 28 °C. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain 14C53T was most closely related to Actinomadura geliboluensis A8036T (98.5 % similarity value), but in the phylogenetic tree, it formed a clade with Actinomadura alkaliterrae D310AT. The genome tree revealed a close relationship between the strain and Actinomadura pelletieri DSM 43383T. However, the digital DNA–DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between strain 14C53T with Actinomadura geliboluensis A8036T and Actinomadura pelletieri DSM 43383T were 28.6–30.2 % and 84.3–85.5 %, respectively, and comparative analyses based on the genome sequences demonstrated that it represents a novel species of the genus Actinomadura . The genome size of strain 14C53T was approximately 9.0 Mb and the genomic DNA G+C content of the strain was 71.3 mol%. The major cellular fatty acids of strain 14C53T were C16 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0. Strain 14C53T contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H8) and MK-9(H6). Based on evidence collected from the phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic analyses, a novel species Actinomadura soli sp. nov. is proposed, with 14C53T (=DSM 104447T=KCTC 39878T) as the type strain.

Three aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and rod-shaped bacteria, designated strains RXD178T, RXD172-2 and RLT1W51T, were isolated from two forest soil samples of Nanling National Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province, PR China. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and 92 core genes showed that they belonged to the genus Collimonas , and were most closely related to four validly published species with similarities ranging from 99.4 to 98.2 %. The genomic DNA G+C contents of strains RXD178T, RXD172-2 and RLT1W51T were 57.1, 59.5 and 59.4 mol%, respectively. The genome-derived average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA–DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between the novel strains and closely related type species were below 37.90 and 89.34 %, respectively. Meanwhile, the ANI and dDDH values between strains RXD172-2 and RLT1W51T were 98.27 and 83.50 %, respectively. The three novel strains contained C16 : 0, C17 : 0 cyclo and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω6c and/or C16 : 1 ω7c) as the major fatty acids, and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω6c and/or C18 : 1 ω7c) comprised a relative higher proportion in strain RXD178T than in other strains. Both strains RXD172-2 and RLT1W51T had phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG) and an unidentified aminophospholipid (APL) as the main polar lipids while only PE and APL were detected in strain RXD178T. Ubiquinone 8 was the predominant quinone. Based on the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic and genomic analyses, strain RXD178T should be considered as representing one novel species within the genus Collimonas and strains RXD172-2 and RLT1W51T as another one, for which the names Collimonas silvisoli sp. nov. and Collimonas humicola sp. nov. are proposed, with RXD178T (=GDMCC 1.1925T=KACC 21987T) and RLT1W51T (=GDMCC 1.1923T=KACC 21985T) as the type strains, respectively.

An actinomycetes strain A-T 1946T that developed spherical sporangia containing non-motile spores on aerial mycelia was isolated from dry deciduous forest soil in Thailand. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain A-T 1946T belongs to the genus Sinosporangium , being closely related to Sinosporangium album 6014T (98.8 % sequence similarity). The DNA–DNA relatedness values were 43.7–50.9 %, which were significantly below 70 % and differentiated strain A-T 1946T from the closest species. The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. The whole-cell sugars contained rhamnose, ribose, madurose and glucose. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H2). The diagnostic phospholipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, lysophosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol-mannoside, N-acetylglucosamine-containing phospholipids, two unknown phosphoglycolipids and two unknown phospholipids. The predominant cellular fatty acids were unsaturated C16 : 1 and C17 : 1, and saturated C16 : 0 and 10-methyl-C17 : 0. Following an evaluation of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic characteristics, the isolate is proposed to represent a novel species of genus Sinosporangium to be named Sinosporangium siamense sp. nov. The type strain is A-T 1946T ( = BCC 29081T = NBRC 109515T). An emended description of the genus Sinosporangium is also provided.

A novel actinobacterium, designated strain NJ2035T, was isolated from soil collected from Abuja, Nigeria and was characterized to determine its taxonomic position. The isolate was found to have chemical and morphological properties associated with members of the genus Lechevalieria . Phylogenetic analyses based on almost-complete 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the isolate was closely related to members of the genus Lechevalieria , and was shown to form a distinct phyletic line in the Lechevalieria phylogenetic tree. Strain NJ2035T was most closely related to Lechevalieria roselyniae C81T, Lechevalieria atacamensis C61T and Lechevalieria deserti C68T (98.5 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). Sequence similarities with other members of the genus Lechevalieria were less than 98.2 %. The cell wall of the novel strain contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, and galactose, mannose and rhamnose as the diagnostic sugars. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H4). The polar lipids detected were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylinositol. DNA–DNA relatedness and phenotypic data showed that the novel isolate and L. roselyniae C81T, L. atacamensis C61T and L. deserti C68T belong to distinct genomic species. On the basis of data from this taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach, strain NJ2035T represents a novel species of the genus Lechevalieria , for which the name Lechevalieria nigeriaca sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is NJ2035T ( = DSM 45680T = KCTC 29057T = NRRL B-24881T).

A Gram-negative, straight to slightly curved rod-shaped bacterium, motile with peritrichous flagella, designated SgZ-6T, was isolated from an electroactive biofilm and was characterized by means of a polyphasic approach. Growth occurred with 0–5.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 1 %), at pH 6.0–10.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and at 10–42 °C (optimum 30 °C) in trypticase soya broth. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA and gyrB genes identified the isolate as a member of a novel species of the genus Pseudomonas . Strain SgZ-6T exhibited the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to ‘ Pseudomonas linyingensis’ CGMCC 1.10701 (97.5 %), followed by Pseudomonas sagittaria JCM 18195T (97.4 %), P. oleovorans subsp. lubricantis DSM 21016T (96.6 %), P. tuomuerensis JCM 14085T (96.5 %) and P. alcaliphila JCM 10630T (96.4 %). Strain SgZ-6T showed the highest gyrB gene sequence similarity of 93.7 % to ‘P. linyingensis’ CGMCC 1.10701 among all type strains of genus Pseudomonas . DNA–DNA pairing studies showed that strain SgZ-6T displayed 47.1 and 40.3 % relatedness to ‘P. linyingensis’ CGMCC 1.10701 and P. sagittaria JCM 18195T, respectively. The major isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone 9 (Q-9). The whole-cell fatty acids consisted mainly of summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c), C16 : 0 and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω6c and/or C18 : 1ω7c). The DNA G+C content of the genomic DNA was 68.1 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain SgZ-6T is proposed to represent a novel species of the genus Pseudomonas , for which the name Pseudomonas guangdongensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SgZ-6T ( = CCTCC AB 2012022T = KACC 16606T). An emended description of the genus Pseudomonas is also proposed.
