Extracellular matrix plays a pivotal role in biofilm biology. Despite importance of matrix proteins as potential targets for development of antibacterial therapeutics little is known about matrix proteomes. While P. aeruginosa is one of the most important pathogens with emerging antibiotic resistance only few studies are devoted to matrix proteomes and there are no studies describing matrix proteome for any clinical isolates. As matrix responsible for some extracellular functions, it is expected that protein composition should be different in comparison with embedded in biofilm cells and this difference reflects possible active processes in matrix. Here we report the first matrix proteome for clinical isolate of P. aeruginosa in comparison with embedded cells. We have identified the largest number of proteins in matrix among all published studies. Ten proteins were unique for matrix and not present inside cells, but most of these proteins do not have well described function with respect to extracellular component of biofilm. Functional classification of enriched in matrix proteins resulted in several bioprocess groups of proteins. Top three groups were: oxidation-reduction processes, nucleoside metabolism and fatty acid synthesis. Finally, we discuss obtained data in prism of possible directions for antibiofilm therapeutic development.

Preincubation of rat liver nuclei with copper ions influenced the stability and protein composition of the nuclear matrices isolated by a "high salt" method. Also the specific interaction between matrix proteins and the kappa Ig matrix attachment region of DNA was affected.

The peculiarities of metabolic and oxidation reduction processes as well as energoplastic metabolism during physiologic course of gestation in unfavourable cologie conditions are studied. It is established that in ecologically unfavourable region during physiologic pregnancy general degydrogenase activity of blood plasma increases, cell membranes are packed, general protein level increases. The decrease of general degydrogenase activity of blood plasma with the increase of pregnancy length, rarefaction of membranes, the reduction of relation coefficient of malate dehydrogenase and lactate degydrogenase activity, the increase of combined quantity relationship of reduced and oxidated equivalents can be considered to be biomarkers of physiologic pregnancy transfer to pathologic.

In Earth Science, image cross-correlation (ICC) can be used to identify the evolution of active processes. However, this technology can be ineffective, because it is sometimes difficult to visualize certain phenomena, and surface roughness can cause shadows. In such instances, manual image selection is required to select images that are suitably illuminated, and in which visibility is adequate. This impedes the development of an autonomous system applied to ICC in monitoring applications. In this paper, the uncertainty introduced by the presence of shadows is quantitatively analysed, and a method suitable for ICC applications is proposed: The method automatically selects images, and is based on a supervised classification of images using the support vector machine. According to visual and illumination conditions, the images are divided into three classes: (i) No visibility, (ii) direct illumination and (iii) diffuse illumination. Images belonging to the diffuse illumination class are used in cross-correlation processing. Finally, an operative procedure is presented for applying the automated ICC processing chain in geoscience monitoring applications.

Soil chemistry of Fe includes weathering reactions, adsorption, hydrolysis, complexation, and oxidation-reduction reactions. Soil chemistry for scandium (Sc) is similar, but Sc does not include oxidation-reduction reactions. To determine if geochemical analysis may be used to identify Sc partitioning with respect to Fe among the particle size fractions, two Alfisol and two Ultisol soils were assessed using an aqua-regia digestion to estimate Sc and Fe concentrations for whole soil and particle size separates. Aqua-regia digestion data showed Sc depletion relative to Fe in sand separate. Sand separate is largely composed on quartz sand and Fe-Mn-bearing nodules, which are redoximorphic features produced by alternating oxic and suboxic/anoxic conditions associated with seasonally fluctuating water tables. Relative partitioning of Fe and Sc in these soils warrants further study to assess if selective extractions could quantify the extent of modern or ancestral oxidation-reduction processes responsible in some soil features involved in soil genesis.
