We comment briefly on relations between the elastic and inelastic cross-sections valid for the shadow and reflective modes of the elastic scattering. Those are based on the unitarity arguments. It is shown that the redistribution of the probabilities of the elastic and inelastic interactions (the form of the inelastic overlap function becomes peripheral) under the reflective scattering mode can lead to increasing ratio of [Formula: see text] at the LHC energies. In the shadow scattering mode, the mechanism of this increase is a different one, since the impact parameter dependence of the inelastic interactions probability is central in this mode. A short notice is also given on the slope parameter and the leading contributions to its energy dependence in both modes.

The impact parameter dependence ofπ-/π+ratio is examined in heavy-ion collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon within a transport model. It is shown that the sensitivity ofπ-/π+ratio on symmetry energy shows a transition from central to peripheral collisions; that is, the stiffer symmetry energy leads to a largerπ-/π+ratio in peripheral collisions while the softer symmetry energy always leads this ratio to be larger in central collisions. After checking the kinematic energy distribution ofπ-/π+ratio, we found this transition of sensitivity ofπ-/π+ratio to symmetry energy is mainly from less energetic pions; that is, the softer symmetry energy gets the less energetic pions to form a smallerπ-/π+ratio in peripheral collisions while these pions generate a largerπ-/π+ratio in central collisions. Undoubtedly, the softer symmetry energy can also lead more energetic pions to form a largerπ-/π+ratio in peripheral collisions. Nevertheless, considering that most of pions are insufficiently energetic at this beam energy, we therefore suggest theπ-/π+ratio as a probe of the high-density symmetry energy effective only in central at most to midcentral collisions, thereby avoiding the possible information of low-density symmetry energy carried inπ-/π+ratio from peripheral collisions.

The correlations between the multiplicities of secondary charged particles emitted in collisions of 3 A GeV/c 7 Li with emulsion have been studied. The dependence of the correlation strength on the mass number of the projectile has been analyzed. Moreover, the dependence of the average multiplicities of shower particle emitted in the forward and backward hemispheres on the number of target fragments has been investigated. The study of the number of backward slow protons (black and grey particles) indicates that, while the number of backward particles is a good factor representing the purely target fragments, the number of backward grey particles can be considered an accurate experimental factor for the impact parameter dependence of the collision.
