A novel two-dimensional→three-dimensional CuIIcoordination polymer, {[Cu2(C10H14N4)5](NO3)4·4H2O}n, based on the 1,1′-(butane-1,4-diyl)bis(1H-imidazole) (biim) ligand and containing one crystallographically unique CuIIatom, has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The CuIIatom is coordinated by five N atoms from biim ligands, one of which has crystallographically imposed inversion symmetry, giving rise to a slightly distorted CuN5square-pyramidal geometry. The CuIIcations are linked by biim ligands to give a 44layer; the layers are further bridged by biim ligands, generating a double sheet with a thickness of 14.61 Å. The sheet features rhombic Cu4(biim)4windows built up from four CuIIcenters and four biim ligands with dimensions of 14.11 × 14.07 Å2. Each window of a layer is penetrated directly by the biim ligand of the adjacent net, giving a two-dimensional→three-dimensional entangled framework.

The reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O with 2,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid) and 4,4′-bipyridine under hydrothermal conditions produced a new mixed-ligand two-dimensional copper(II) coordination polymer, namely poly[[(μ-4,4′-bipyridine-κ2 N,N′)[μ-2,4′-oxybis(benzoato)-κ4 O 2,O 2′:O 4,O 4′]copper(II)] monohydrate], {[Cu(C14H8O5)(C10H8N2)]·H2O} n , which was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray diffraction crystal structure analysis reveals that the CuII ions are connected to form a two-dimensional wave-like network through 4,4′-bipyridine and 2,4′-oxybis(benzoate) ligands. The two-dimensional layers are expanded into a three-dimensional supramolecular structure through intermolecular O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds. Furthermore, magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate that the complex shows weak antiferromagnetic interactions between adjacent CuII ions.

In the title compound, [Cu(C2N3)2(C12H10N6)]nor [Cu(dca)2(abpt)]n, where abpt is 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole and dca is the dicyanamide anion, the CuIIcentre is five-coordinate with an approximately square-pyramidal geometry. One of the two dicyanamide ligands is a terminal ligand, but the other one acts as a μ1,5-bridging ligand between pairs of CuIIcentres, so generating a one-dimensional coordination polymer. A combination of N—H...N and C—H...N hydrogen bonds, augmented by π–π stacking interactions, links the coordination polymer chains into a bilayer structure. Comparisons are made with some related CuIIcomplexes containing dca ligands and heteroaromatic co-ligands.

In the title coordination polymer, [Ba(C5HN2O6)(C2O4)0.5(H2O)2]n, the tenfold coordination of the Ba centre consists of four O atoms from the two 4-nitro-2,5,6-trioxo-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridin-3-olate (L) anions, three O atoms of two oxalate anions and three water molecules. The Ba—O bond lengths fall in the range 2.698 (3)–2.978 (3) Å. TheLligand chelates two Ba atoms related by a screw axis, leading to formation of fused five- and six-membered chelate rings. Due to the bridging function of the ligands and water molecules, the complex monomers are connected into polymeric two-dimensional layers parallel to thebcplane. Intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds link these layers into a three-dimensional supramolecular framework.

In the title compound, [Cu2(OH)2{C12H7N2(PO3C2H5)}2(H2O)2]·7H2O, two Cu2+cations are bridged by two hydroxide groups, forming a centrosymmetric binuclear complex. Each Cu2+cation is further coordinated by the N atoms of a bidentate ethyl (1,10-phenanthrolin-3-yl)phosphonate anion and a water molecule in a square-pyramidal geometry. In the crystal, a network of O—H...O hydrogen bonds involving the P(O)(O−)(OEt) groups, bridging hydroxyl groups, coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules generates a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. The ethyl group exhibits disorder and was modelled over three sites with occupancies of 0.455, 0.384 and 0.161.

The title compound, [Ni(C2H5NO2)2(H2O)], is a mononuclear nickel(II) complex. The NiII atom is five-coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms from two glycinate ligands in basal plane positions, and by one O atom from a coordinated water molecule in the apical position, forming a slightly distorted square-pyramidal geometry. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked through intermolecular N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.

The crystal structure of the title salt, [Cu(ClO4)(C8H20N4)]ClO4, is reported. The CuIIion exhibits a square-pyramidal geometry and is coordinated by the four N atoms of the neutral 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (cyclen) ligand and an O atom from one perchlorate anion, with the second perchlorate ion hydrogen-bonded to one of the amine N atoms of the cyclen ligand. Additional N—H...O hydrogen bonds between the amine H atoms and the coordinating and non-coordinating perchlorate groups create a three-dimensional network structure. Crystals were grown from a concentrated methanol solution at ambient temperature, resulting in no co-crystallization of solvent.

The polymeric title compound, [Cu2Br2(C4H8S)2] n , CP1, represents an example of a two-dimensional coordination polymer resulting from reaction of CuBr with tetrahydrothiophene (THT) in MeCN solution. The two-dimensional layers consist of two different types of rhomboid-shaped dinuclear Cu(μ2-Br)2Cu secondary building units (SBUs); one with a quite loose Cu...Cu separation of 3.3348 (10) Å and a second one with a much closer intermetallic contact of 2.9044 (9) Å. These SBUs are interconnected through bridging THT ligands, in which the S atom acts as a four-electron donor bridging each Cu(μ2-Br)2Cu unit in a μ2-bonding mode. In the crystal, the layers are linked by very weak C—H...·Br hydrogen bonds with H...Br distances of 2.95 Å, thus giving rise to a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

A three-dimensional coordination polymer, poly[hexaaqua(μ4-glutarato)bis(μ3-sulfato)dineodymium(III)], [Nd2(H2O)6(glutarato)(SO4)2] n (glutarato2– = C5H6O4 2–), 1, consisting of cationic {Nd2(H2O)6(SO4)2} n 2n+ layers linked by bridging glutarate ligands, was synthesized by the microwave-heating technique within few minutes. The crystal structure of 1 consists of two crystallographically independent TPRS-{NdIIIO9} (TPRS is tricapped trigonal–prismatic geometry) units that form an edge-sharing dinuclear cluster interconnected to neighbouring dimers by the μ3-SO4 2– anions, yielding a cationic two-dimensional {Nd2(H2O)6(SO4)2} n 2n+ sheet. Adjacent cationic layers are then linked via the μ4-glutarato2– ligands into a three-dimensional coordination network. Strong O—H...O hydrogen bonds are the predominant interaction in the crystal structure.

A new coordination polymer was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, namely [Zn(Bpy)(DHTA)0.5]n (DHTA = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-terephthalic acid tetra-anion, Bpy = 2,2’-bipyridine). There is one Zn(II) ion in [Zn(Bpy)(DHTA)0.5]n, the metal center Zn(II) is five-coordinated and forms a slightly twisted square pyramidal geometry. It remains stable at temperatures as high as 380 °C, and a sharp drop in weight is found in the temperature range of 380–570 °C. The calculation results show that the residual is zinc(II) oxide (ZnO). The emission peak of the complex appears at 365 nm (λex = 366 nm). The photoluminescence results suggest that the complex has potential as a new luminescence material. At the same time, in luminescence explorations experiments, the complex showed a high degree of selectivity and sensitivity to organic solvents, acetone (DMK) and metal ions (Fe3+).
